In the 2020 Supercars season Scott McLaughlin has already won the championship ahead of the last event after leading with 305 points ahead of Jamie Whincup. These two drivers are the favorites to win the last race as well in the Bathurst 1000 winner odds. But the rest of the field can also go for glory in The Great Race.
The last race of the Supercars season will be held in the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales. Bathurst 1000 is regarded as one of the most prestigious races in Australia and known as The Great Race among the fans. The most successful driver here was Peter Brock who won the race a record 9 times. Sadly he died in a race accident at the age of 61 during the Targa West rally in 2006. Race organizers at Bathurst named the winner’s trophy after him in that year. Scott McLaughlin has already won the championship as his lead is more than the maximum 300 points which can be won in the race. But surely he will still go for another victory in this famous track just like the rest of the field.
World champion can repeat his success according to the Bathurst 1000 winner odds
24 cars have confirmed to start in the race, with only four of them competing here for the first time. In this experienced field now 3-time series champion Scott McLaughlin is the favorite to win with the odds of 3.74. McLaughlin has already won the 1000km classic last year but his victory was surrounded with controversial acts. As his team-mate, Fabian Coulthard was ordered to slow down during the safety car, so McLaughlin didn’t lose any time during a pit-stop. Now the New Zealander can prove his win wasn’t undeserved and get his 14th victory of the season.
Online sportsbooks in Australia also mention second-place Jamie Whincup in the favorites with the odds of 4.00. Whincup is still fighting for the runner-up position and for another victory in this legendary track. He has already got four victories here, three as a co-driver and his latest from 2012 as the driver of his Holden Commodore. Whincup is one of the most successful Supercars drivers with seven championship titles and 122 career wins. This season he got four wins and several podium finishes. Now, with 7-time Bathurst winner Craig Lowndes on his side, they will be a major candidate for the victory.
Other drivers who can get the victory
Shane van Gisbergen is currently in fourth place in the championship but 54 points behind the podium. His co-driver is three-time Bathurst winner Garth Tander who can assist him to get his first victory in the Great Race. Van Gisbergen has already achieved some great results here in a different category after winning the 2016 Bathurst 12 hour race in GT. He also won the Supercars series in that year and finished twice as a runner-up since. In 2020 he has been struggling on a few occasions, and only got his first victory of the season in the eighth round.
Online gambling sites in Australia offer the odds of 5.50 for his victory now. While his main rival for the podium, Cameron Waters has the odds of 6.50 in the Bathurst 1000 winner odds. The young Australian can achieve the best result of his career so far. Following his 7th place finish in the overall standing last season. He is in great form too after winning the previous race in the Bend Supersprint and surely will aim for a great finish in Bathurst. In a track where he competed first at the age of only 17 and became the youngest driver to race.
