Djokovic will play here after his last appearance in 2007
The next indoor ATP 500 tennis tournament is held in Wien this week, between the 26 October – 1 November. World No1 Novak Djokovic makes his first appearance since 2007 and is the top favorite in the ATP Vienna winner odds. But last year’s champion and four more top 10 players can also fight for the trophy in the Austrian capital.
The first ATP 500 Open in Vienna was held in 1974, so the tournament goes back to a long history. We can find the greatest players in the previous winners, like Boris Becker, Pete Sampras or Roger Federer. Local favorite Dominc Thiem won the Open last year and became the third Austrian player to achieve victory on home soil. Novak Djokovich has also won here 13 years ago, in 2007 when he defeated Stan Wawrinka in the final. Now the world No1 will make another appearance here and go for his fifth ATP title of the season.
ATP Vienna winner odds favor Djokovic to get the trophy in Austria
Online sportsbooks in Austria offer the smallest odds, 1.864 for the victory of Novak Djokovic. The Serbian star still leads the world ranking in spite of his recent failures in the Grand Slams. Like his performance at the US Open, where he was disqualified in the last 16 after hitting the line official accidentally. And even though he got to the final of the French Open he lost there in three straight sets against Rafael Nadal. But he won his 36th ATP Tour Masters 1000 title in Rome and could win his 5th title of the season. Djokovic will face a tough opponent in the first round, his compatriot, Filip Krajinovic.
Just like one of his biggest rivals, Dominic Thiem, who will start against 2018 runner-up Kei Nishikori. The Austrian player is third in the world ranking after winning his first Grand Slam title in the 2020 US Open. He also reached the quarter-final in the French Open but lost there against Argentine Diego Schwartzman in a five-set game. Actually Thiem defeated Schwartzman in last year’s final here and surely will aim to defend his title now. He has the odds of 5.95 to do so in the ATP Vienna winner odds.
Other top 10 players are also in the favorites
World No6 Daniil Medvedev has the odds of 8.90 to win his first title this year. He was close to a great success in the US Open where Thiem stopped him in the semifinal. But now the Russian is ready to take revenge and go all the way. In spite of playing the first time in the Erste Bank Open, he should get through easily to the second round. He is facing Alex de Minaur in the first round where he has the odds of 1.37 to win the game by online gambling sites in Austria.
While another Russian player, Andrey Rublev can also cause surprises in the tournament. The 23-year-old is in great form and reached his career best 8th place in the world ranking this month. He won four titles this season like Djokovic and reached the quarter-finals at both the US and French Open. Rublev hasn’t guaranteed his place yet at the Nitto ATP Finals in London but a victory would be a big step to achieve it. His odds for winning the Erste Bank Open is 13.00 on 22Bet.
