Aussie star Nick Kyrgios can also get a great result after his long break
A new tournament is being held this week in Melbourne as a preparation for the 2021 Australian Open. Local favorite Nick Kyrgios is mentioned in the favorites in the ATP Murray River Open odds, but other top players also take part in the event. Like world No18 Stan Wawrinka and world No19 Grigor Dimitrov who can both win the competition.
After the cancellations of other ATP tournaments, two new events are held this week in Melbourne. The Murray River Open and the Great Ocean Road Open with most top players taking part in one of them. While others are competing in the 2021 ATP Cup. Both new events are lead-up tournaments to the 2021 Australian Open starting next week. The Murray River Open has the prize money of $382,575, with the singles winner taking home $19,500. But beside the money, it also offers a great opportunity to win ATP points and prepare for the first Grand Slam of the season. In the top eight seed players we can find Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov who will only join the tournament in the second round. While local favorite Nick Kyrgios has already started the event and won his first game. He will meet his compatriot, Harry Bourcier in the next round.
ATP Murray River Open odds mention Wawrinka and Kyrgios in top favorites
Stan Wawrinka is the top seed of the tournament and has the odds of 5.50 to win it in the ATP Murray River Open odds. The three-time Grand Slam winner didn’t play much last season so it’s not easy to predict his form. In the last major event, in the 2020 French Open he was knocked out in the third round. The Swiss player will try to get his first ATP Tour victory since May 2017. He will start against Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round with the odds of 1.28 to win the match.
Online sportsbooks in Australia predict a good performance from the local favorite, Nick Kyrgios as well with the same odds, 5.50 for winning. The Aussie star is only 47th in the world ranking after suffering with a hip injury and skipping most events last season. But surely he will do everything on home soil and go for a great result before the Australian Open. Where he actually reached the quarter-finals in 2015.
Rising stars like Auger-Aliassime, Fritz and Humbert can also shine
Canadian Feix Auger-Aliassime is only 20 years old, but he has already got into the top 20 players of the world. The 2016 US Open boys’ singles winner has reached the finals of six ATP Tour events in the last two years. Though he hasn’t been able to win any of them he can try to get his first adult victory in Melbourne. Online gambling sites in Australia offer him the odds of 11.00 to do so. While two fellow young talents, French Ugo Humbert and American Taylor Fritz will also compete in the tournament.
Fritz got his breakthrough in 2019 after winning his first ATP Tour title at the Eastbourne International. He reached the final of his first ATP 500 event in Acapulco last year but lost there to Rafael Nadal. His odds to win now is 17.00 on bet365. Another alumni of the Next Gen ATP Finals is Ugo Humbert who is currently in 30th place in the world ranking. The 22-year-old player won his first ATP titles last year in Auckland and in Antwerp. He will start this Open against Australian James Duckworth with the odds of 1.25 to go through.
