The heated rivalry between Ireland’s SBG and Stockton’s Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu team will begin on the undercard when knockout artists Artem Lobov and Chris Avila throw down.

Artem Lobov is proud of his record. And he should be. The Russian-born fighter began his career with 2 wins and 2 losses, but established a reputation as someone that was willing to throw down with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Lobov would go on to alternate wins and losses over the course of his career, defeating a number of notable fighters along the way including his TUF 22 teammate Martin Svensson.

The Russian-Irish fighter’s ability truly came to light while on the aforementioned 22nd season of the Ultimate Fighter. He made Irish gambling news by defeating all three of his opponents in the house by KO to make it to the finals. Now, after two straight losses, “the Russian hammer” will look to get back in the winning column with another KO victory over Nate Diaz’s teammate Chris Avila.

At first glance, it looks like Chris Avila is being thrown to the wolves here. The 5-2 fighter has fought primarily in small regional shows, and hasn’t shown the type of well rounded game typically associated with a fighter in the UFC. Look a little closer however, and you will see just how capable the Lodi native is.

Avila’s main strength is his boxing ability. He has one professional boxing match recorded, and likely a large number of amateur fights under his belt. The Cesar Gracie Fight Team product is riding a three fight win streak, with two big KO’s and one submission. That boxing experience could either hurt or help him, as his opponent has no problem throwing hands until someone falls.

Artem Lobov is the Betting Favorite Heading into UFC 202

To most analysts and fans alike, it’s no surprise that Artem Lobov is entering UFC 202 as the betting favorite. According to Intertops sportsbook, The Russian-Irishman is a -135 favorite to notch his 12th professional win. Avila is not a huge underdog, with current odds at +105.

In many ways, this fight is the people’s main event of UFC 202’s undercard. Many fans are interested in the rivalry between SBG and Cesar Gracie’s Fight Team, and this fight will be the first match between the two gyms. Both fighters have a fan-friendly, leave it all in the cage attitude, and it seems likely that one fighter could end up staring into the lights before the final bell sounds.
