UCL Round of 16 Outrights Betting Guide – Who’s Going to the Quarter-Finals?

Let’s start with outrights first. All of the remaining 16 teams have a separate betting section that involves qualification for the next round. 20Bet Sportsbook did a good job of making these betting lines separate and visible enough to avoid any confusion. Based on December odds alone, these are the clubs expected to reach the quarter-finals: Tottenham, Benfica, Chelsea, Napoli, and Man City.

The missing matchups are PSG vs Bayern, Liverpool vs Real Madrid, and Inter vs Porto. These clubs have the same odds of advancing. Outright betting odds will greatly change after the 1st leg matchups so it’s best to make your bets before the February matches. Our picks for the quarter-finalists are PSG, Milan, Benfica, Dortmund, Real Madrid, Napoli, Man City, and Porto.

1×2 and Double Chance Bets Are Very Popular

The 1×2 betting odds are great at the moment as the 1st leg matches are more or less two months away. Most of the full-time bets are above 2.00 as well. For example, Milan’s odds of winning their first encounter are 2.25 and we think the Italians will manage. Online gambling in Spain haven’t published the odds for the 2nd leg matches yet.

Since we’re at the knockout stage of the UCL, there has to be a winner at the end of each match. So 1×2 is the best option whether you’re an expert or just venturing into football betting. Double chance bets are very similar to 1×2. Initially, you’re choosing the easy way here because each option includes two possible outcomes. The odds and rewards are smaller as well. For example, a double chance of a Milan win or draw has odds of 1.33.

We Didn’t Forget About Draw No Bets

This betting line removes the option for a draw. It’s not as rewarding as 1×2 bets but some people prefer this option. However, if you know which side will win anyway, there’s not much point going with this betting line.

Total Goals – 2023 UCL Round of 16 Betting Guide

This is where things start getting interesting. This betting line includes over and under-bets for a specific amount of goals in a match. For the Milan vs Tottenham match, these lines go from 0.5 to 5.5. For example, Milan is scoring over 2.5 goals in more than 70% of their matches this season. But they concede at least one goal in nearly all of their encounters.

Comparatively, Spurs’ rates are a bit lower. They’re not as efficient on the offense as Milan and concede about the same amount of goals. Don’t Be Scared of Asian Totals

Asian total betting lines are great as well but not as many people use them as the regular European variant. These provide more options and some bettors prefer these. Instead of .50 these betting lines increase by .25 or .75. So for the same Milan-Tottenham match, the betting options are between 0.75 and 5.25. Because of this, the odds are slightly better as well.

Handicaps Only Seem Complicated at First

Handicap bets are the same as spread betting in American sports. These bets give one side a virtual deficit to overcome at the start of the event and are used to even the playing field. Be vary, however, as a handicap bet can be only applied to one side.

Let’s use an example to make things clearer. If Milan win the match 2-1 the winning handicap bet would be Milan -0.5. After applied, the final score would then be 1.5-1 which still results in the Italian’s victory. A handicap tie with a -1 margin would work as well in this situation. Asian handicaps are the same but with .25 and .75 margins.

Precise Handicap Betting Guide

Every online gambling site in Spain has handicap bets that include numbers such as 1:0, 2:0, and so on. With this betting line, you’re giving one side the advantage by a certain amount of goals. So using the same prediction of 2-1 for the Milan vs Tottenham match, a winning bet here would be 0:1.

Spurs 0:1 has odds of 1.62 on 20Bet Sportsbook. This means that you trust Milan to score at least two goals and win the match in the end. If the match ends in 2-1 to Milan as we predicted, this would be your winning handicap bet.

Halftime/Fulltime

These are one-two-punch betting lines. The odds are greater but so are the risks and rewards. You are betting on both halves of the match with separate results. For example, Milan can win the match but they could lose or draw in the first half. On 20Bet Sportsbook, the odds of Tottenham winning both halves are 4.96.

Sometimes, betting sites will include a selection of players who can potentially score in a match. Forwards are at the top of the list most of the time and their odds are better as well. For the Milan vs Tottenham match, the top five would be Kane, Richarlison, Son, Giroud, and Leao. These bets are simple however it’s important to wait for a confirmed lineup before making your selection. Additionally, injuries play a big part here as well.

Correct or Final Score

This is one of the most rewarding and riskiest betting lines in football. Predicting the exact final score of a match is difficult but fun. If you’re feeling unsure about this option you can just opt for a multi-bet that has the same amount of risk-reward ratio as a single correct score bet.

Penalties Are Back in the 2023 UCL Round of 16

With the removal of the away goals rule last year, penalties have entered the chat. If teams are level after the two matches and the full 180 minutes, the games will go to extra time. Then, if still no superior team emerged after the extra time, the match will go to a penalty shootout. These bets will be only relevant for the 2nd leg matches, however.
