World No1 Mark Selby is the biggest favorite in spite of losing the final last year
One of the most special snooker tournaments, the 2022 Shoot Out is held this week, between 20-23 January at the Morningside Arena in Leicester. Ryan Day is the defending champion after beating Mark Selby in last year’s final. Now the world No1 is the biggest favorite in the 2022 Snooker Shoot Out odds. But other top 10 players like Kyren Wilson and Mark Allen are also in the favorites.
The ranking snooker tournament of Shoot Out is a special event as all one-frame matches only last 10 minutes. While players only have 15 seconds to make a shot in the first five minutes and only 10 seconds in the second five. This year’s tournament is the eighth ranking event of the 2021/22 snooker season, and a part of the 2022 European Series. The winner will receive £50,000 from the total prize fund of £171,000. 128 players will begin the tournament including the defending champion, Ryan Day who won his third ranking title last year. But the other finalist, world ranking leader Mark Selby also features the event. Along with 2020 winner Michael Holt and top 10 players Kyren Wilson, Shaun Murphy, and Zhao Xintong.
Selby lead the 2022 Snooker Shoot Out Odds
Mark Selby reached the final in last year’s Shoot Out, but lost there against Ryan Day. Now online sportsbooks in the UK favor the world No1 to win the event with the odds of 21.00. Even though Selby hasn’t been in great form this season. He hasn’t won any tournament since winning his fourth World Championship title last May. The four-time world champion did reach the semi-final of the 2021 World Grand Prix last December but lost there against Neil Robertson. Selby also reached the quarter-finals at the 2022 Masters last week, where he was defeated by Barry Hawkins. Now he will start against Chinese Li Hang with the odds of 1.57 to win the match.

The next highest-ranked player in the field is world No5 Kyren Wilson who has the odds of 26.00 in the 2022 Snooker Shoot Out odds. The runner-up of the 2020 World Snooker Championship has reached the semi-final of this tournament a couple of years ago, in 2015. Since then he hasn’t been able to repeat his performance here. Last year he had to withdraw from the event. Wilson also reached the last eight in the 2022 Masters though at the Alexandra Palace where he was beaten by Judd Trump. The 30-year-old will play first against his compatriot, Elliot Slessor with the odds of 1.57 to go through.
Allen, Bingtao, and Murphy in Other Top Names
Shaun Murphy is currently in 7th place in the world rankings and has the odds of 29.00 to win this year’s Shoot Out. He reached the semi-final here once, back in 2017. But he only got to the second round last season. The 2005 world champion hasn’t won any tournament in the last two years, so his victory would be a small surprise now. But the Magician is surely capable of winning as his previous 9 ranking wins prove it. Just like Mark Allen who won his 6th ranking event at this year’s Northern Ireland Open. He also reached the final of the 2013 Shoot Out, but lost there eventually against Martin Gould.

The winner of 2021 The Masters got to the semi-finals at both the Champion of Champions and the Northern Ireland Open this season. In this event, his best result is reaching the semi-final two years ago. But he can easily get even further now. His compatriot, Zhao Xintong won his first tournament, the 2021 UK Championship last December. He moved to 9th place in the world rankings and has the odds of 29.00 to win in Leicester. While the defending champion, Ryan Day will aim to repeat his great performance. The 41-year-old hasn’t really got similar results since his victory here. Now his odds to defend his title are 41.00 on bet365.
