The 2022 AmazingCre Portland Classic is held this weekend, 15-18 September at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Ohio. The defending champion, Jin-young Ko won’t compete this time, unlike other top 50 players. Like the world No2 Nelly Korda, and the 2022 Evian Championship winner Brooke Henderson. Both players are mentioned among the main favorites in the 2022 Portland Classic odds. Let’s see their chances of winning below.
The Portland Classic is the longest-running non-major event in the LPGA Tour as the first edition was held in 1972. It has been held annually ever since, though the tournament was moved to a new location last season. Now it returns back to the well-known Columbia Edgewater Country Club which has hosted the event most times. In the previous winners of the Portland Classic, we can find players like Annika Sorenstam, Pat Hurst, and Brooke Henderson. The Canadian will compete this year as well along with other former champions like Hannah Green and Georgia Hall. The world No1 and defending champion Jin-young Ko won’t be in the field though unlike the main favorite, world No2 Nelly Korda.
Korda leads the 2022 Portland Classic odds ahead of Henderson
Nelly Korda returned back from her surgery and a few months’ break with a T2 finish at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June. Since then she also finished in the top 10 in three more events. Including a T2 finish at the CP Women’s Open three weeks ago. The world No2 will make her tournament debut in Portland, but she is already the biggest favorite. Online sportsbooks in the US offer the smallest odds, +500.00 for her victory. It would be the 24-year-old American’s 8th LPGA Tour win. And the first since her last win at the 2021 Pelican Women’s Championship last November.
The two-time tournament winner Brooke Henderson follows her in the 2022 Portland Classic odds with +900.00. The Canadian won her first ever LPGA Tour title here in 2015 which she successfully defended in the following year. The world No5 has been in great form all year after winning her second major at the 2022 Evian Championship. While she also won the ShopRite LPGA Classic and finished T7 in the AIG Women’s Open. Another player with similar odds is Hye Jin Choi, who has already got great results in her first year on the Tour. The 23-year-old South Korean was third in the US Women’s Open and T5 in the Women’s PGA Championship. Her odds to get her first win now are +1000.00.
Chances of other former winners
We can find more former champions in this year’s field like Georgia Hall and Hannah Green. The British player won this tournament in 2020 and finished as a runner-up in 2018, making this course one of her favorites. The winner of the 2018 Women’s British Open usually performs better on European soil, but this event seems like an exception for her. Online gambling sites in the US offer the odds of +1400.00 for her second victory here.
We can find similar odds besides another former winner, Hannah Green. The Australian won her second LPGA Tour title in Portland in 2019, just after her major title at the Women’s PGA Championship. Green hasn’t got any win since but she has been in good form all season. The world No17 finished in the top 10 on six occasions including a T5 finish in this year’s PGA Championship. Her odds of finally winning again are +1600.00.
The 2018 Portland Classic winner Marina Alex’s chances for victory are less promising. Even though the 32-year-old US player did get her second LPGA Tour win at the 2022 Palos Verdes Championship in May. She also finished in the top 10 on two more occasions, so Alex might bring another good performance in Portland. Her odds to win here are +3000.00. Another US player, 21-year-old Yealimi Noh was also close to winning here before. She finished as a runner-up in 2019 and T3 in 2020. Noh only has two top 10 finishes in the season but it might change this weekend. Her odds to win now are +5000.00 on BetOnline.
