French Quentin Fillon Maillet can win his second gold on Saturday’s race
After the mixed relay and individual events, the sprint races are coming in the biathlon program of the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The women’s 7,5km sprint race is held this Friday, 11th of February followed by the men’s 10km sprint race on Saturday. The 2022 Olympic biathlon sprint odds favor Norwegian gold medals in both events, but there are several other top-class athletes who can also win the title.
Norwegian biathlons belong to the best in the world and they can dominate the 2022 Olympics as well. They already won the mixed relay but their athletes are in the favorites in all other events too. The first opportunity for another Norwegian gold is the women’s sprint event where the 2018 silver medalist, Marte Olsbu Roiseland is the top favorite. The defending champion, German Laura Dahlmeier has retired since her victory just like the men’s champion, Arnd Peiffer. In Beijing, several athletes can win the men’s sprint gold including the 2022 winner of the individual event, Quentin Fillon Maillet. And the current sprint world cup leader, Sebastian Samuelsson along with the Norwegian athletes.
2022 Olympic Biathlon Sprint Odds Favor Marte Olsbu in the Women’s Sprint Race
Marte Olsbu Roiseland won the silver medal in the previous Olympics in Pyeongchang. Now online sportsbooks in Norway offer the smallest odds, 4.50 for her victory. It is no surprise as she is also leading the 2021/22 Sprint World Cup along with the overall standings. The 31-year-old athlete won 11 gold medals from the world championships including the sprint event in 2020. Olsbu didn’t have a bad start at this Olympics either after winning the bronze medal in the individual race. Her compatriot and the reigning world champion of the event, Tiril Eckhoff is also among the top favorites. She won the sprint and the overall world cup last season but isn’t in her best form this year. Her odds to win the gold are 8.00 on 22Bet.
Their biggest rivals can be the Oeberg sisters from Sweden, Elvira, and Hanna. Though Elvira is the younger one, she is favored more by the 2022 Olympic biathlon sprint odds. The 22-year-old athlete is currently in second place in the Sprint World Cup and third in the overall table. If she can race on the same level, she can produce a surprise result on her Olympic debut. Her sister, Hanna is already an Olympic champion from Pyeongchang, where she won the individual race. Sprint might not be her strongest discipline but she can also fight for a medal. Their odds to win on Friday are 6.50 and 14.00. Another dark horse in the field is Belarusian Dzinara Alimbekava who is in third place in the sprint world cup. The 26-year-old finished fifth in the individual race in Beijing and has the odds of 15.00 to win now.
Bo is the Top Favorite In The Men’s Sprint
Johannes Thingnes Bo is one of the most successful athletes in biathlon with 52 World Cup victories. He also won the Olympic gold medal in the individual race four years ago. But he only finished 31st in the sprint race then. Bo is capable of winning any time and in any event though as his 12 world championships and 10 World Cup titles prove. This season the Norwegian star hasn’t been as convincing and stands only in fifth place in the overall standings. Bo won the bronze medal though in the individual race a few days ago. Online gambling sites in Norway offer the odds of 3.00 for his victory. His brother, Tarjei Bo got two bronze medals in sprint from previous world championships. He stands third in the overall standings this season and has the odds of 10.00 to win.
The current overall World Cup leader, Quentin Fillon Maillet won the individual gold in Beijing with a confident performance. He has now the odds of 5.75 to repeat this result. The French has a silver and a bronze medal from world championships in the event. And he also finished as a runner-up in the 2019/20 Sprint World Cup. His compatriot, Emilien Jacquelin is another potential candidate for the gold after winning the bronze in the 2021 world championships. Just like the current sprint world cup leader, Sebastian Samuelsson who has the odds of 6.00 to win the race. The Swedish athlete has already got the Olympic relay gold in Pyeongchang and a silver in pursuit. Now he can fight for the gold on Saturday but he will need a better performance than last week. As Samuelsson finished only in 30th place in the individual race.
