The 2022 Hero World Challenge is held this weekend, between 1-4 December, at Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas. 20 players will take part in the special event organized by Tiger Woods benefitting the Tiger Woods Foundation. Some of the biggest favorites include Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Justin Thomas in the 2022 Hero World Challenge preview. Along with last year’s winner, Viktor Hovland.
Tiger Woods hosted the first Hero World Challenge tournament in 2000, under the name of Williams World Challenge. Top players of the world ranking are invited to the event, with Tiger Woods usually also taking part in it. Not this time though after the 15-time major winner had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury. Fans can still see some of the greatest golf players right now. Like the world No2 Scottie Scheffler, the world No5 Jon Rahm and last year’s winner, Viktor Hovland. 7 players will make their debuts in the tournament including Tom Kim, one of the biggest rising stars of the sport. But really almost anyone can win the event in this elite field, as you can see below.
The 2022 Hero World Challenge Preview Mentions Rahm and Scheffler as Top Favorites
Jon Rahm has been in great form recently after winning the Open de Espana in October. And the European Tour’s season-ending event, the 2022 DP World Tour Championship last weekend. Plus he also finished T4 in the PGA Tour event of the CJ Cup last month. The Spanish world No5 has also won this event once, in 2018. And finished as a runner-up the following year. No wonder online sportsbooks in the US mention him as the biggest favorite and offer the smallest odds, +550.00 for his victory.
Rahm is followed by the world No2 Scottie Scheffler in the 2022 Hero World Challenge preview. The 26-year-old US player had his breakthrough last season with four wins, and six more podium finishes. Including his first major win at the 2022 Masters Tournament and a T2 finish in the 2022 US Open. He was leading the world ranking between March and October this year. And was named the 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year. Scheffler continued in the same style in the new season and finished third at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba this month. He was also close to winning this event last year. Now his odds to do so are +700.00.
Finau, Schauffele, and other top-form players can also get the win
Tony Finau is also among the favorites thanks to his recent great results. Including a win at the Cadence Bank Houston Open two weeks ago. The world No11 performed well in the second half of the previous season and got two more PGA Tour wins. Finau was also a runner-up at Albany Course in 2018 and will make his fourth consecutive appearance now. With the odds of +900.00 to win it. Similar odds are offered for the victory of Xander Schauffele. The 29-year-old American got three PGA Tour wins last season and two more podium finishes. Schauffele started the new season with a T9 finish at the Zozo Championship, but he can get a much better result now. Even though his best result in this course has been a T8 finish.
Online gambling sites in the US mention the defending champion, Viktor Hovland in the middle of the field. The Norwegian has been in fine form in the previous season with two PGA Tour wins and his victory at the Dubai Desert Classic in the European Tour. He also got his best result in a major with his T4 finish at the 2022 Open Championship. His odds to win again in the Bahamas are +1800.00. The same odds are offered on BetOnline for the victory of 20-year-old Tom Kim. The young South Korean player won his second PGA Tour win last month in Las Vegas. He became the second youngest player to do that. Now Kim can continue his great run on his tournament debut at the Hero World Challenge.
