After the withdrawal of world No1 Dustin Johnon, Patrick Cantlay is the top favorite
The next tournament of the 2020-21 PGA Tour is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament in California, held between the 11th and 14th of February. After the withdrawal of Dustin Johnson, the race can be even more open with several players with a chance to win it. From them world No6 Patrick Cantlay is the top favorite in the 2021 Pebble Beach winner odds.
The first golf tournament in the area was held in 1937 organized by Bing Crosby under the name of National Pro-Am Golf Championship. In 2021 the race will be held on Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Usually the field consists of 156 professional and 156 amateur players who compete in two-man teams. This year though the pro-am section was cancelled and only the professional event will be held. Mark O’Meara and Phil Mickelson got the most wins with five victories here. While the defending champion is Canadian Nick Taylor. We can find several top players in this year’s field like Patrick Cantlay, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth. So inspite of the withdrawal of world ranking leader Dustin Johnson fans should expect a great race.
2021 Pebble Beach winner odds favor Cantlay to win
Patrick Cantlay is the top favorite of online sportsbooks in the US to win the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament with the odds of +700. The former world number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking has turned professional in 2012. Since then he has got 3 PGA Tour victories. With the last one being the 2020 Zozo Championship win at Sherwood Country Club, also in California. He also started the new year in great form after finishing as a runner-up in the Desert Classic last month. Now Cantlay can go for another win in Pebble Beach where he finished in T11 position in 2020.
We find next in the top favorites another golfer with similar records, 27-year-old Patrick Berger. He also has three PGA Tour wins so far after winning the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge last June. Since then his best result has been a T7 finish in Sony Open in Hawaii but he can get a better result now. His T5 finish from last year can be a good sign and explain his odds of +1300 in the 2021 Pebble Beach winner odds.
Day and Spieth can also get back to winning
Last week’s Phoenix Open was won by former major champion Brooks Koepka. Who actually got his first victory after a two-year break. This weekend we might see a similar comeback from former world No1 Jason Day who always perform well at Pebble Beach. He has seven top 10 finishes out of 11 performances including a T2 result in 2018. Day hasn’t been in great form recently. But after his previous performances he has a good chance and the odds of +1600 to get back to winning.
Online gambling sites in the US also mention Jordan Spieth, another former world No1 and three-time major winner in the favorites. Spieth has been also struggling in the last few seasons with his last victory dating back to 2017. But he started 2021 with a great T4 finish in Scottsdale. And can perform well again in the tournament he won in 2017. His odds of winning again is +2000 on BetOnline. While five-time Pebble Beach winner Phil Mickelson is also in the field. The legendary player can get his sixth title now with the odds of +4000 to do so.
