2020 English Open Predictions: Trump and O’Sullivan in the Top Favorites

This year’s English Open takes place this week, between the 12th and 18th of October at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes. 128 snooker players take part in the competition, so it isn’t easy to guess the winner. In the 2020 English Open predictions defending champion Mark Selby is in the favorites again along with the legend of the sport, Ronnie O’Sullivan.  

This is the 5th edition of the professional snooker tournament which is part of the Home Nations Series along with the Welsh, Northern Ireland and Scottish Open. The winner of the English Open receives the Davis Trophy and £70,000 from the £405,000 prize fund. Mark Selby is the defending champion after beating David Gilbert in last year’s final. He started the competition with an easy win yesterday just like 2017 winner Ronnie O’Sullivan.

In the 2020 English Open predictions favor world No1 to win

Now Trump has the chance to get his first win of the season in this tournament where his best result so far is a runner-up finish in 2016.

But several other top players will aim for the same. Like six-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who has the same odds to win in the 2020 English Open predictions. The Rocket is currently second in the world ranking behind Trump after winning the world championship. But he only got to the second round in the previous tournament, the European Masters. And he almost lost against an amateur French player, Brain Ochoiski in the first round yesterday. Surely O’Sullivan has to focus more if he wants to go all along to the final. But with so much experience and successes he is certainly one of the main favorites.

Defending champion and top Australian are also in the favorites

World No4 and last year’s English Open winner Mark Selby is also mentioned by online gambling sites in the UK. He has the odds of 7.00 to defend his title. The three-time world champion reached the semi-final in this year’s Tour Championship. He also got to the last four in the World Championship where O’Sullivan defeated him at the end 17-16. But Selby came back strongly and won the European Masters last month in a tight final against Martin Gould. Now he can continue his winning streak in Milton Keynes with the aim to claim back the No1 spot on the world ranking.

Australian Neil Robertson is also through to the second round of the Open and will face Mark Joyce there. He is the favorite of that game and has a chance to win the tournament with the odds of 8.50. Robertson’s last big result was the victory in the 2019 Champion of Champions tournament where he defeated both O’Sullivan and Trump to win the trophy. In the new season he got to the quarter-finals in the 2020 European Masters where he lost against Shaun Murphy 5-4. Now he can try to improve on his results and get to the final for the first time in this tournament.
