Enable is still the firm favorite at 4/7. But, it’s a long way from the Longchamps to Kentucky. Meanwhile, there’s a growing following on the tempting 9/1 2018 Breeders Cup odds on Talismanic. Is this a case of optimism over experience? With Waldgeist and Magical in the mix at shorter odds should you really back Talismanic to win the 2018 Breeders Cup Turf? We take a look.
Breeder’s Cup Turf
- 3th of November 2018
- Churchill Downs
- Louisville, Kentucky
- Distance – 1½ Miles
- Surface – Turf
- Age – 3 yrs +
- Purse – $4 Million
One of the reasons the 2018 Breeders Cup odds Talismanic garners hover at the 9/1 mark is that in a mirror of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe it’ll be racing up against Enable once more, the horse that took the win in Paris, well that and the fact Talismanic itself only managed 13th on the day, and perhaps worse it’s race prior to that saw it lose against Waldgeist who likewise runs in Kentucky, where it gets shorter 6/1 odds at bookies like Bovada, so then is that a better wager?
Well until the Arc Waldgeist had won four on the bounce so it’s no slouch, but it only rushed home in fourth place as Enable stormed to that massive win, and there’s a chance it could well be pipped to the finish by Magical who loiters at the 8/1 mark. If you like to bet on sports in the US and think the 2018 Breeders Cup odds Talismanic is getting at bookies like Bovada are perhaps a tad shorter than the horse deserves, Magical might not be a bad wager given very recent results.

Are Channel Maker & Robert Bruce Good Each-Way Punts?
Barely two weeks before it will have to challenge those 2018 Breeders Cup odds Talismanic garners Magical ran at Ascot and comfortably beat out Coronet by a length over a mile and four furlongs, its best finish since the summer given it only managed a 10th place finish in Paris, but perhaps it’s just now hitting its stride and that win will see it perform better in Kentucky, the bookies aren’t quite sure it won’t surprise everyone on the day which is why it gets 8/1 to win.
Naturally if you’re willing to wager on surprises there’s the pair of nicely priced wagers for the each-way crowd in the shape of Channel Maker and Robert Bruce. The former gets 12/1 at Bovada and won over a mile and a half just recently where, coincidentally, it beat Robert Bruce into second place, which might explain why if you take advantage of US gambling laws to back the four-year old you’ll find it stuck at about 14/1 which to place is fine, but to win is unlikely.
2018 Breeders Cup Odds: Talismanic 9/1 At Bovada
Breeders Cup Turf 2018 Odds
- Sadlers Joy – 50/1
- Hunting Horn – 33/1
- Glorious Empire – 25/1
- Robert Bruce – 14/1
- Channel Maker – 12/1
- Talismanic – 9/1
- Magical – 8/1
- Waldgeist – 6/1
- Enable – 4/7
Beyond these entirely sensible wagers available at Bovada et al, you could throw caution to the wind and back Glorious Empire at 25/1, Hunting Horn at 33/1 or Sadlers Joy at 50/1 who came third last time it ran, but was beaten by Channel Maker and Robert Bruce both, so probably isn’t even worth an each-way punt, not given those 2018 Breeders Cup odds Talismanic is getting, by comparison it would be an act of roaring insanity, and if you’re that nuts already why not go big?
Sites like Bovada will give you 66/1 on Arklow and Liam the Charmer both, and frankly that’s a realistic assessment of their complete lack of any chance, although the real tail-end-charlies are Hi Happy and Quarteto De Cordas which get a scant 100/1 to win, but if you’re in the US gambling news headlines will announce either of them winning on Monday you need to calm down, take a breath and then take up those 2018 Breeders Cup odds Talismanic is getting instead.
