Casinos in the EU
The EU is the home to a wide collection of different casinos, including Casino Estoril in Portugal – the inspiration for Casino Royale, the first story of the James Bond series.
The casinos vary from giant purpose built casinos to tiny little rooms in towns in the middle of nowhere. While there are no casinos to compete with the giants found in Macau, the region still spends a fortune at the slots and table games every year. In countries where there are no casinos, gamblers often travel over borders to get to casino destinations.
Online Casinos in the EU
Most online casinos in the EU are licensed in one of the few “whitelist” jurisdictions. This is a list of territories allowed to advertise gambling services in the UK. The list includes Malta, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Alderney, Tasmania and Antigua and Barbuda.
As such, most players are able to access online casinos in the EU, whether a license is granted by their home nation or not. It is also very hard for governments to block foreign based websites, especially those from within the EU itself.
