Gambler from Gillingham Smashes Fixed Odds Betting Machines

Robert Deeming hammers fixed odds terminals at William Hill and Coral, in order to prove a point how money is gambled on the machines.

The gambling addiction turned his life upside down, causing him to lose thousands on other occasions. Gambling news estimate that Robert Deeming gambled away somewhere between GBP 3,000 and GBP 4,000 in a single month. The greater junk of that money went on roulette provided by the fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs).

He considered the machines were quite unfair to him, which propelled to express his rage at the staff and the machines. After experiencing the immense loss, he wanted to get even, so he decided to protest with anger towards two bookies in Chatham and that’s when proceeded to attack the six terminals.

Deeming receives two year ban on betting shop visit

After the melee attack on the machines, the police arrested Deeming, after which a judge ruled that he guilty of two counts of criminal damage. Deeming pleaded guilty in the hearing and accepted the verdict from the Medway magistrates.

Additionally, the court banned him from visiting any sportsbooks in the Medway Towns for two years, while also placing him under curfew for four months. This means that Deeming will have to stay indoors from noon until 6 pm throughout the summer.

The court also set a fine of GBP 300 in compensation and a further GBP 145 for court expenses.

Unlike mobile betting, FOBTs have been described by some people as the “crack cocaine” of gambling as opponents claim that fixed odds terminals often attract vulnerable gamblers.
