She is 29, smart and attractive poker player. Liv was born in Maidstone, Kent and walked a long way from the classroom to the most prestigious poker tournaments.
Boeree always had a competitive personality taking part in different academic and sport contests. Her passion for science developed in her teenage years and she continued her education in the University of Manchester, acquiring a First Class degree in Physics and Astrophysics back in 2005.
After moving to London Liv wanted to become part of a TV show and was lucky to be one of the five selected participants. Neither she nor the rest, were aware of the fact that the premise of the show was to train them as complete beginners, to play poker. Their coaches were professional players like Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Dave Ulliott.
This is the story behind Boeree’s great love for poker, which she developed and managed to become of the most successful female poker players.
Poker is only one of Boeree passions
In addition to her excellence while playing in UK online poker rooms, she also has interest in TV productions. She used to be journalist and TV host, including reporting from the World Series of Poker, World Series of Poker Las Vegas, European Poker Tour and World Series of Poker Europe.

Everything counts when it comes to poker
Liv Boeree is one of the most successful female poker players
• Her total earnings from different poker tournaments are around $2 million
• Liv won the European Poker Tour in San Remo for $1,250,000 in April 2010
• She is on the PokerStars Pro team
Liv doesn’t enjoy being called a professional poker player despite the fact that she has earned around $2 million in different poker tournaments.
She commented: “The training I got from physics, the way its conditioned my mind to think, has enabled me to go into such an analytical game. It’s what allows me to be a fantastic player.”
According to Boeree: “Poker is about making incredibly complex decisions in a short space of time. Under a lot of pressure with so many variables and bits of information, you have to filter through to make the correct ones.”
“That’s what physics is all about, and that’s what helps me now when I’m playing on the tables for millions of dollars.”
Boeree’s poker success story
Liv’s great poker career began in 2008 when she started participating in different World Series of Poker and World Poker tournaments, achieving her primary results. Her game made it into the gambling news and huge poker magazines started writing about her. At the same time, she also did some modeling for different media.
Boeree became European Ladies Champion in 2008 and her biggest success so far came in April 2010 when she won the European Poker Tour in San Remo for $1,250,000. This achievement placed her among the best female players, as she was only the third woman to ever win an EPT title.
Liv commented on her success: “As a girl, I’ve always enjoyed being in a minority in whatever subject I’m doing – physics, poker, or playing heavy metal guitar. I certainly would not have got the attention that I’ve had in poker had I not been a female.”
She added: “There is absolutely no reason why us girls can’t kick out at whatever subject we choose to do. It would make me so happy to see more girls studying physics, winning Nobel Prizes, being the next Einstein.”

Always remembering where she comes from
Liv never forgets to mention her hometown Maidstone: “I migrated there more when I got older and started going to the various rock bars in the town such as the Union Bar and the Thirsty Pig. I loved the rock scene in Maidstone very much; it was always a very fun town to go out in!”
She added: “It’s one of the most beautiful areas in the UK and I was so lucky to have been surrounded by it. Preserving the woodland and rural areas of Kent and the UK is something I care passionately about and hope that they are maintained.”
