State-owned monopoly to offer online and mobile casino gambling options
Norwegian state betting monopoly Norsk Tipping has partnered with global lottery and gaming develop GTECH to launch of range of iGaming options for the domestic market. The firm will offer 65 new games, the largest expansion in its history.
The first games were launched on January 14 and included online and mobile bingo and slot games. The move came after the Ministry of Culture asked Norsk Tipping to begin offering online games to citizens of the country.
Even monopolies much adapt to survive
The move is seen as a much-needed adaption to changing market conditions, especially as mobile casino gambling becomes increasingly popular. Specializing in sports betting was simply not a bold enough strategy to keep the firm profitable moving forward.
Norsk Tipping CEO Torbjorn Almlid had this to say: “This is a much-needed and long-awaited renewal of Norsk Tipping as a provider of money games in Norway. Norsk Tipping must be up-to-date to survive as a gaming company and provide customers with attractive games….We will launch a series of new games in 2014 and we will especially concentrate on new games for mobile.”
The state-owned company remains the only firm licensed to take bets or offer online casino services to Norwegian citizens.
