Mobile Betting on Horse Races is On Course for New Jersey

Following the approval by the state legislature, the mobile betting on horse racing in New Jersey is awaiting the governor’s signature to become a reality. Chris Christie’s approval will introduce a change to the American gambling laws, allowing mobile horse race betting in the Golden State.

The Assembly Bill 2610 was sponsored by Ron Dancer and has been successfully approved at both Senate and Assembly levels. The law, should it be introduced, will allow the use of mobile gambling devices for betting on horse racing.

Punters will be able to bet on horse races using their mobile devices in all indoor and outdoor areas of racetracks, including special areas of the Meadowlands complex. Further agreements with facility operators and approvals from the New Jersey Racing Commission are needed to designate the permitted areas.

Earlier this year Dancer mentioned to the American gambling news that his bill aims to modernize state gambling laws, with specific focus on modern technology including mobile gaming devices providing these with clear legal standing in the eyes of the New Jersey Racing Commission.

The bill also allows the use of mobile devices to learn the outcome of racing events, wagering information. Live streaming of races to iOS platform is also under consideration of the bill.

Industry experts suggest that should the bill be approved by Chris Christie, it will pave the way for further liberalization of mobile and online gambling in the state of New Jersey and even the United States as a whole.

New Jersey is not the only state, currently considering allowing such gambling opportunities. Not to mention Nevada, where mobile betting has long been legalized.
