The Swedish betting and gambling firm commenced the first joint project in Denmark.
An increasing number of European governments opt for the regulation of internet gambling rather than totally banning it. However, the different national regulations in each country created a demand for independent specialist auditing and testing from the operators side.
The London-based regulatory auditing and testing agency eCOGRA has been offering its expertise to provide compliance and audit services to major gambling companies who seek licensing on a national level.
According to joint press release by the two companies, Unibet is one of the new clients of the British firm. Earlier this year, Swedish gambling operator Unibet put out a request for Proposal and invited top testing agencies to bid.
Chief executive of eCOGRA, Andrew Beveridge commented: “Unibet is an industry leader in terms of promoting responsible gambling and player protection, and demonstrating the highest levels of regulatory compliance, and therefore we are very pleased to be appointed the Group’s Regulatory Audit Partner.”
eCOGRA’s involvement with Unibet started in Denmark with compliance reviews for over a quarter of the Danish licensees.
General Counsel for the Unibet Group, Ewout Keuleers noted: “We are confident that eCOGRA’s extensive mix of professional Big 4 audit firm, IT and industry experience will enable them to effectively assist us with the diverse spread of regulation and testing principles and methodologies being adopted throughout Europe.”
ECOGRA, founded in 2004, aims to improve operational standards and player safety in the online gambling space. 171 online gambling websites are accredited by the independent, ex big-six staffed London-based company. The firm completed over 100 compliance reviews against its own eGAP Requirements and the European Gaming and Betting Association (‘EGBA’) Standards.
Unibet, founded in 1997, is one of the key player in internet betting in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. The Swedish firm is listed on the NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm. The firm is one of the largest privately-owned gambling operators in the Europe. Unibet is available in 27 languages for 6.7 million customers in over 100 countries.
