Playtech signed a licensing agreement with leading Spanish television network Mediaset Espana for the supply of online gambling software.
Spanish television network Mediaset Espana signed a new licensing agreement with online gambling software designer and supplier Playtech.
Mediaset Espana, the largest television network in Spain, plans to place a special focus on Playtech’s TV products. The Madrid firm’s huge expertise in the local market and broadcasting is believed to ensure the mass-market appeal of the new Spanish internet casino platform.
The deal will see Playtech provide Mediaset Espana with its entire range of products including casino, poker, mobile, bingo and live dealer titles. All games are to be operated under a local gaming license required by Spanish gambling laws.
The agreement gives Playtech the chance to become Mediaset Espana’s ‘key partner’ in the new market opportunity, complementing the Spanish TV network’s already expansive entertainment offer.
A statement from Playtech in the Spanish gambling news says: “Given Mediaset Espana’s expertise in broadcasting, it plans to place a special focus on Playtech’s television product, capitalizing on the mass-market appeal of this platform.”
The statement emphasized: “This is a particularly strategic step for both parties, as Mediaset Espana is listed among Spain’s 35 strongest companies on the main Spanish stock exchange IBEX 35 with a EUR 1.780 million market capitalization to date. In choosing to sign with Playtech, it joins the gaming industry’s leading provider in what is proving to be a tremendously successful market for online gaming.”
Mediaset is the majority shareholder in Gestevision Telecinco, which is part of the Spanish television group that owns the Telecinco television network that began broadcasting in 1990.
Telecinco is the leading private television group in Spain both in terms of audience share and advertising revenue. The company is listed as one of the most profitable television groups in the European Union.
