The final battles for the champion start at the stage 18 at La Vuelta 2016: Quintana or Froome?
The countdown of this year’s La Vuelta a Espana has already started. We are left with the last four days of the race which are about to bring us an ultimate excitement as there are four pretenders for the champion title: the red jersey owner, Nairo Quintana, the Tour d’France winner for this year, Chris Froome, the second Columbian, Johan Chavez and the home cyclist Alberto Contador. Yesterday’s medium mountain stage from Castellon de la Plana to Camins del Penyagolosa in Lucena long 177.5 km did not bring much of a change in the overall classification.
The winner of the race was the Swiss Mathias Frank with four hours 34 minutes and 38 seconds. The leading quartet in the overall classification passed the line altogether in almost the exact time: three minutes and 27 seconds behind the leading rider, Frank. This situation left Nairo Quintana on the throne, 3 minutes and 37 seconds in front of the greatest competitor, the British Chris Froome from Team Sky and 3 minutes and 57 seconds in front of the third Johan Chavez from the team of ORICA BikeExchange. Not far behind these three is Alberto Contador from the team of Tinkoff with 4 minutes and 3 seconds delay. As it is usually the case in cycling, the time of the leader cannot guarantee anything yet. So all of you fans of bet on sports in Spain prepare to add some extra excitement at La Vuelta with a wager on your favorite rider.
Sprinter’s day at La Vuelta 2016
Today’s flat race from Requena to Gandia, long 200.6 km is expected to bring advantage to the sprinters. The three flat stages so far were won by the Benelux riders: Meersman won two, from Ourense to Baidona and from Viveiro to Lugo, while Drucker won the stage from Alcaniz to Peniscola. None of the leading four has so far proved them self to be good in flat races. Quintana and Froome have ended up only once among the top 15 riders on the flat stage’s at this year’s La Vuelta
• Nairo Quintana keeps the red jersey
• Chris Froome to attack the Quintana’s leadership
• Chavez and Contador to make advantage of the mistakes of the first two
As internet betting sites in EU note, this might be certainly a great chance for some sprinter to come to the top of the classification, but also a warning for the leading four to not let the sprinters make considerable difference in respect to them. Both Quintana and Froome proved to be good in the mountain stages, it is time for them confirm they are good sprinters too.
