Serena Williams

Serena boycotted Indian Wells for most of her career, after winning it in 1999 and 2001, and when she finally returned last year she made it to the Semi Finals. Last year she didn’t actually lose: she had to withdraw thanks to injury. Victoria Azarenka

Azarenka is a former winner of this tournament, and if it weren’t for her injury struggles she could easily have more than one title. Until her shock defeat to eventual champion Kerber at the Australian open, the Bulgarian looked very much like she was back to her former self. If Serena isn’t in the mood, Azarenka is best placed to challenge: her powerful style can overpower anybody.

Agnieszka Radwanska

Radwanka has a mixed record at Indian Wells, but she’s sure to at least get to the final stages. She’s consistent, and her creative skills mean all but the best can’t figure out how to deal with her. However, she can’t respond to the biggest power-hitters in the game, and for her to win the draw has to fall her way. At 10.00 (9/1), at 32Red Sportsbook, you’re really gambling on Serena to fall early.

Angelique Kerber

Kerber is the world number 2, mainly thanks to her astonishing victory at this year’s Australian Open. She hasn’t shown much great form since her career-highlight win though, and who knows how she’ll do here. She’s reached the semi-finals twice, but also had several early exits. We doubt she’ll win, so at 9.00 (8/1) she isn’t among the best Indian Wells WTA odds. Then again, nobody expected her triumph in Australia either!

Simona Halep

If you bet on sports, you’ll know how difficult it is to defend the title at Indian Wells. Only Martina Navratilova has done so, and the event has been played for almost thirty years. What’s more, the Romanian was given a very tricky draw: to win she’ll likely have to beat both Williams sisters. She’s been poor this year: don’t bet on things changing here.

Belinda Bencic

Bencic recently broke into the top-10, the first teenage entrant since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009, and she’s definitely going places. She reached the fourth round here last year, and she’s gone from strength-to-strength since. She can beat anyone, including Serena, so her odds of 10.00 (9/1), from 32Red Sportsbook, are very tempting!

Garbine Muguruza

For Bencic to win, she’ll probably have to get through Garbine Muguruza. The Venezuelan-born Spaniard was Wimbledon runner-up last year, but she’s not exactly set the tennis world on fire since then. She has talent, but so far doesn’t have the consistency of Bencic, who is four years her junior. If you bet on sports in Australia, you’ll know she didn’t perform to expectations at 2016’s first grand slam; in fact, she’s only 44th in the world this year.

Sloane Stephens

This could be Sloane Stephens’ year. She’s already won two tournaments, and looks to be taking things far more professionally than in the past. The conditions at Indian Wells should suit her game. She was enjoying herself here last year until she faced Serena Williams; she won the first set but couldn’t seal the deal. She’s 31.00 (30/1) at 32Red Sportsbook

Johanna Konta

Thanks to her stunning run at the Australian open, the British-citizen is 7th in the world this year. Born in Australia to Hungarian parents, she stunned the tennis world by reaching the semi-finals, in her first appearance in the main draw. She may be unknown, even to those who bet on sports in the UK but she has a habit of beating big name players, and if she builds some momentum she could be hard to stop. At 101.00 (100/1), she’s an intriguing outsider bet.

Jelena Jankovic

The former world no. 1 may be past her prime, but this is a tournament she has always enjoyed. She won Indian Wells in 2010, and reached the final last year. At 121.00 (120/1), If you’re looking for the best Indian Wells WTA odds, she might be worth a shot!
