According the IBIS report, sports betting remains the fastest growing industry. Currently, bettors only constitute about 1.6 percent of the total gambling spending, the sector will soon make up the ground as it’s growing faster than slots, horse racing and lotteries.

The IBIS report also opined that additional marketing efforts during the NRL and AFL seasons coupled with increased online accessibility and live betting are the main reasons behind growth in the sports betting industry.

She went on to add that the technological advances including smartphones, allow people to bet anywhere and anytime.

She commented: “There’s been so much marketing it has allowed online gambling companies to really target sporting events and sporting fans. So now on TV when you see someone score a try in the corner of a field, there’s a Centrebet post that they are knocking over.”
