Poker Stars gains a powerful ally on their quest to repeal prohibition of online gambling in the United States.
It’s a difficult task to fight American gambling laws on your own, yet Poker Stars took on the challenge and recently gained a powerful ally with deep pockets to help win the battle.
Steve Wynn, the CEO of Wynn Resorts, with an estimated net worth of around 2.3 billion dollars, teamed up with Poker Stars to lobby for the repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, and for passage of liberalized online gambling laws.
The first move of the newly founded alliance is to lobby for a Federal law to regulate online poker sites in the United States as well as license foreign based poker rooms.
In a joint press release Poker Stars and Wynn Resorts stated – “The companies will first work to secure the passage of federal legislation that will finally and conclusively define illegal internet gambling, provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to stop illegal internet gambling, protect consumers by establishing a robust regulatory environment for the safe operation of online poker sites by experienced operators, and establish a regime for the assessment and collection of taxes.”
With the support of Steven Wynn, Poker Stars plans to make the first step towards the legalization of online poker in the US. However, partners will have to withstand strong pressure from the gaming industry giants such as MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment, who are not interested in having a gaming monster called Poker Stars in their state.
