The prosecutor for the Italian Football Association (FIGC) is investigating last week’s Atalanta – Piacenza match. Saturday’s Series B encounter shows extremely unusual and suspicious betting patterns prior to the game, which caught the eye of the Italian Football association.
A huge number of perfect bets were made on the match through the state sportsbook monopoly – Monopoli di Stato, created under the Italian gambling laws. The state bookmakers contacted the Italian football’s governing body, and report their suspicions. FIGC instantly opened an investigation into the game.
Prior to the league match, a huge volume of bets, almost triple the normal number, was placed on the home win for the Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio (Atalanta BC) who is at the top of the Series B table.
The problem is that the vast majority of punters who bet on sports in Italy correctly predicted not only the exact half-time score but also the final score of the match.
The referee suspiciously awarded two kicks to Atalanta at the final seconds of the first half which Christian Doni converted into goals. As predicted by the vast majority of the punters, the half time score was 2-0 for Atalanta. There is no word if internet gambling websites saw the same unusual trends.
During the second half of the game, Francesco Ruopolo made Atalanta’s third goal. The game ended with Atlanata winning 3-0 as was also correctly predicted by practically every punter who wagered on the game. The FIGC investigation continues.
