UEFA Europa League Winner 2024 Betting Odds: An Introduction
This year’s edition of the UEFA Europa League is set to be an exciting year. We have already plenty of exciting games and new teams entering the competition, having finished third in their UEFA Champions League group.
To clarify, teams that finished first in their group automatically advance to the Round of 16. Teams finishing second have to play a two-legged knockout match against a team that finished third in one of the UEFA Champions League groups. Teams that finish in third are eliminated to the UEFA Conference League whilst teams in fourth are out of European competitions. Before we go into the UEFA Europa League winner 2024 betting odds and review the best online betting sites in Ireland, let’s have a quick recap of what has happened so far.
UEFA Europa League Group Stages
Group A
In Group A, UEFA Conference League winners West Ham won five of their six matches, losing away against Olympiacos. In second place, Bundesliga side Freiburg managed to advance with 12 points and 17 goals scored. Olympiacos finished in third, eliminating them to the UEFA Conference League.
Group B
Group B saw Brighton win four of their opening six matches and advance in first place to the Round of 16. Marseille, who finished two points behind Brighton in second place, will have to play a knockout match to reach the round of 16. Ajax, who are having a torrid season, finished in third with only one win whilst AEK finished last.
Group C
Rangers managed to advance to the Round of 16 having claimed 11 points from their group. They finished marginally in front of Sparta Praha, who had 10 points.
Real Betis are sent to the knockout stages of the UEFA Conference League with 9 points whilst Aris are out of Europe.
Group D
Atalanta are one of the only teams to have avoided defeat this season in the Europa League. They finished first of Group D with 14 points whilst Sporting finished second with 11 points. Sturm and Rakow both ended up with only 4 points, however, Sturm has the better goal difference and head-to-head record.
Group E
In Group E, Liverpool won four of their opening six matches, losing twice. They are through to the Round of 16 whilst French side Toulouse have a knockout playoff match having finished in second. USG finished third in the group whilst LASK were last with only a single win.
Group F
In Group F, Villarreal won four matches and drew once, finishing a single point about Rennes who had won four but lost twice. Both teams advance to the knockout stages but Rennes have to play a tie with one of the relegated UEFA Champions League teams. Maccabi Haifa finished in third whilst Panathinaikos finished last.
Group G
Slavia Praha impressively finished first in their group, despite playing against last season’s runners-up, Roma. The club managed to win five of their opening games, having claimed 15 points. Roma, in second place, have only managed 13 points. The team in third is Servette whilst Sheriff finished last in the group.
Group H
Bayer Leverkusen are one of the favourites to win the competition this year, having won all six of their group stage matches and advancing to the Round of 16. The German club are also top of the Bundesliga after 16 games, 4 points above Bayern Munich having played a game more. It is safe to say the transformation under Xabi Alonso is evident to the naked eye. In second, Qarabag will play a knockout game before the Round of 16 whilst Molde is sent to the UEFA Conference League knockout stages. Hacken finished last of the group with 0 points.
UEFA Europa League Winner 2024 Betting Odds – Knockout Playoff
The knockout stages of the Europa League are when things start getting interesting. With eight clubs finishing in second and eight UEFA Champions League clubs entering the competition, a playoff round is added to the fixture list. The first leg will be played on the 15th of February whilst the second leg will take place on the 22nd of February. After the playoff round, the winning teams will advance to the Round of 16.
Below, we uncover the details of each tie, before reviewing the most popular UEFA Europa League winner 2024 betting odds. Please note that the odds for each first leg of the tie have been provided by 20Bet Sportsbook. Follow the link to their site to start placing your early UEFA Europa League predictions.
Shakhtar vs Marseille
The first of the eight knockout playoff matches are a tie between Shakhtar and Marseille. Shakhtar, finishing third in their UEFA Champions League group, will have to play against Marseille, who are sixth in Ligue 1. It is the first time these two teams will meet, with a lot of expectation for the game to go either way.
The first match will be played in Hamburg, Germany, given the fact that Ukraine is not the best place to currently play European football matches. According to 20Bet Sportsbook, the odds of Shakhtar winning the first leg are 3.2, as opposed to Marseille, who have odds 2.12. The odds of a draw are 3.45.
Galatasaray vs Sparta Praha
Perhaps one of the most interesting games to watch, Galatasaray face Sparta Praha having finished third in Group A in the UCL. The Turkish side were impressive throughout, having drawn an exciting 3-3 game with Manchester United in Turkey and won the reverse fixture 3-2 at Old Trafford. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Online betting sites have branded Galatasaray as the favourites to win with odds 1.78. Should the Czech Republic team manage to overcome the Turkish side away from home, punters could benefit from a 4.3 times betting value. The odds of a tie are 3.6.
Young Boys vs Sporting Lisbon
Swiss side Young Boys will play against Sporting Lisbon, having finished third in UCL Group G. Typically, the Champions League team to drop down into the Europa League is considered the favourite to win. However, in this fixture, it is more likely we see a Sporting win over a Young Boys one.
Sporting goes into Switzerland as the favourites to win the first leg with odds 2.12. The odds of Young Boys winning at home are 3.15. The odds of a draw are 3.55.
Feyenoord vs Roma
Similar to the description above, Feyenoord should be seen as the favourites to win the match, having dropped down from the UCL, but one cannot underestimate Roma. Managed by the legendary Jose Mourinho, Roma finished second in the Europa League having lost to record-holders Sevilla on penalties. It is the first time Mourinho has lost a European final, having played in four previously.
Interestingly, Roma and Feyenoord played in the knockout stages of the Europa League last season, with Roma losing 1-0 in the opening match in the Netherlands. However, back home in Italy, Roma won 4-1, advancing to the next round. The two also played in the 2022 UEFA Conference League final, which as we all know saw Roma win 1-0 and Jose Mourinho to be the first manager ever to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
The odds of Roma winning in Rotterdam are 3.3 whilst the odds of a home win are 2.09. It means Feyenoord are seen as clear favourites in the opening game. The odds of a draw are 3.5.
Braga vs Qarabag
Qarabag, an unlikely team from Azerbaijan who find themselves in the knockout stages of the Europa League, will be hoping they can deal with the threat from Portuguese side Braga. The two have never met before so one can expect a feisty turn of events.
The odds of Braga winning the match are 1.35 whilst Qarabag have an unlikely shot of success in Portugal for odds 7.6. Should Qarabag avoid defeat and draw the game, online bookies will pay 5 times your bet.
Benfica vs Toulouse
Benfica drop into the UEFA Europa League having finished third in Group D behind Real Sociedad and Inter, respectively. They face Toulouse, who had a tough group themselves having been drawn with Liverpool, a team that is certainly on the up. The first leg will be played in Portugal and online sportsbook sites in Ireland expect the home team to win.
The odds of Benfica winning the home game are 1.43 whilst Toulouse have an unlikely chance of winning away from home for odds 6.8. Should the game end as a tie 20Bet Sportsbook will pay 4.5 times your bet.
Lens vs Freiburg
Lens were unfortunate not to advance from their UCL group but had a tough time as Sevilla, PSV and Arsenal all featured. Interestingly, Arsenal advanced in first place whilst PSV finished in second. Should Sevilla have advanced to the Europa League, instead of Lens, it would be foolish not to place a bet on the Spanish side. They are the record holders and reigning champions, having won it a total of seven times.
Lens will play German side Freiburg for the first time in both clubs’ history. It is expected to see this tie go either way. However, for the opening game at least, Lens are given the advantage in France with odds 2. The odds of Freiburg winning away are 3.6 whilst a draw would pay 3.45 times.
Milan vs Rennes
The eighth and final game of the knockout playoffs will feature AC Milan and Rennes. Milan finished third in Group F, also known as the ‘Group of Death’. It featured PSG, Dortmund and Newcastle. The Italian club has played in the Europa League for several years now and could see their fortunes change with some European glory this season.
Going into the first leg at the San Siro, Milan is branded with odds 1.57 by 20Bet Sportsbook. The odds of Rennes winning in Italy are relatively high, rated at odds 5.4. Should the match result in a draw, the online bookmaker will pay any punters 4 times their stake.
