The 2022/23 Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup Preview Favors Shiffrin’s Victory

The 2022/23 Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup started last month following the cancellation of the first few events. The four-time overall winner, Mikaela Shiffrin leads the overall standing at the moment. And she is the top favorite to win the title again in the 2022/23 Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup preview. The 57th season of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was supposed to start in October in Solden, but the women’s race had to be canceled due to the weather. The same happened with the next two locations until the competition finally began in Levi, Finland three weeks ago.

Hopefully, the rest of the season will go ahead as it was planned. And it will conclude with the World Cup Finals between 15-19 March 2023 in Soldeu, Andorra. Shiffrin Stands Out Again in the 2022/23 Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup Preview 

Mikaela Shiffrin won her fourth overall World Cup title last season which was a great conciliation after her disappointing Olympic performance. As the American champion couldn’t finish her first run either in the slalom or in the giant slalom events. And her best result was a fourth-place finish in the team event.

But she still won the overall title, finished second in the Slalom and third in the Giant Slalom and Super-G World Cups. The 27-year-old athlete started the new season in great form after winning the first two slalom events in Levi. After seven races, Shiffrin leads the overall standings but we are still only at the beginning of the season. Anyway, she is the top favorite to win the overall title again with odds of 1.50.

The downhill specialist Sofia Goggia won the season’s first two downhill events in Lake Louise and moved to second place in the overall race. The 30-year-old Italian is a three-time downhill World Cup champion. While her best result in the overall competition has been a third-place finish in 2017. If she can get better on the other events, she might have a chance of an overall victory. Her odds to get it this season are 11.00.

Lara Gut managed to win it once, in 2016, and finished as a runner-up in 2021. But last season the 31-year-old skier only finished in 11th place. Gut also won the first giant slalom race in the new season in Killington, which was her first World Cup win in this discipline in six years. 

Her compatriot, Corinne Suter also has a win in the 2022/23 season. After finishing ahead of everyone in the Super-G race in Lake Louise last weekend. The 2022 Olympic downhill champion can do well again in both speed events. And fight for a podium finish in the overall race.

Just like another Swiss skier, Wendy Holdener who is level on points with Suter in the overall standings. Thanks to her win in slalom in Killington and a second-place finish in Levi. The two-time combined World Cup winner finished twice on the overall podium in 2018 and 2019. Her odds to win it now are 26.00 on 22Bet.
