Like in the men’s EHF Champions League, 16 teams participate in the group stage in the women’s top-tier club tournament, the 2022/23 EHF Women’s Champions League. They are divided into two groups of eight, with the first two teams from both groups getting automatically to the quarter-finals. While teams finishing between the third and sixth places will continue in the playoffs. Norwegian Vipers Kristiansand are the defending champions after they won against Gyori Audi Eto in the final. Both clubs are mentioned among the top favorites again along with French, Danish, and Romanian clubs. Russian teams were disqualified from the tournament, which also meant that several players from Russian clubs moved to other countries. But there have been players’ movements between other top clubs too. So let’s see the power order now.

Gyor Lead In the 2022/23 EHF Women’s Champions League Odds

The Hungarian champions, Gyori Audi Eto have been in the top European women’s handball clubs in the last decade. The club won five Champions League titles between 2012 and 2019, while they also finished as runners-up last season. Ambros Martin’s team is the biggest favorite again for the trophy on online sportsbooks in Hungary. Their odds to win the tournament are 2.00. It is not surprising as their squad has become even stronger with the return of former players, Yvette Broch and Ana Gros. Playing along with Norwegian centre-back Stine Bredal Oftedal. Or South Korean Ryu Eun-hee, Gyor seems like the team to beat for the trophy.

But the two-time defending champions, Vipers Kristiansand will be a big rival again. At least according to the 2022/23 EHF Women’s Champions League odds which rank them closely behind Gyor in the list of favorites. In spite of several key players leaving the club in the summer like Nora Mork and Isabelle Gulden. New players have also arrived though including Russian right-back Anna Vyakhireva and Swedish left-back Jamina Roberts. The head coach, Ole Gustav Gjekstad still has a wide range of players to choose from. Making Vipers another main favorite with an odds of 3.50 to defend their title.

Metz, Esbjerg, and other possible winners

The French club, Metz achieved the best result of its history last season. After finishing third in the previous Champions League season. They also won their domestic league along with the French Cup. But lots of key players left the club in the summer from Meline Nocandy to Ivana Kapitanovic. Kristina Jorgensen and Vaeriia Maslove arrived to replace some of them, but head coach Emmanuel Mayonnade’s job will be quite tough. He has already made miracles though and can lead the team to the final four again. While Metz’s odds to win their first trophy are 5.00.

Another club aiming for their first win is Danish Esbjerg who finished fourth last season. They signed one of the top scorers of the competition, Nora Mork from Vipers, and line player Kathrine Heindahl from CSKA Moscow. Their squad also features several other Norwegian players who were members of the World and European Championship winning team. So Jesper Jensen’s team can get a great result again with an odds of 7.00 to win the title.

Online gambling sites in Hungary also mention the Romanian club of CSM Bucuresti as possible winners. Though their odds are much higher, 18.00 to get the club’s second title. Led by the top scorer, Cristina Neagu, and new arrivals, Crina Pintea and Laura Glauser, they can be a strong contender. Just like their compatriots, the Romanian champions, Rapid Bucuresti. They make their debut in the tournament. But with a mixture of experienced players and young talents, they can be the surprise team in the competition. With an odds of 51.00 to win it.
