Premier League Week 1 predictions - Welcome back!
The Premier League returns on 5 August and so does the excitement along with it. In this article, we’ll cover Week 1 of the Premier League and give our predictions for each match briefly. For some matches, detailed betting tips are also available. Football season is finally back.
The new season starts on 5 august and the schedule for all 380 matches has been released. The first week of the Premier League will feature 10 matches, for which you can find betting tips following the links below. In this article, we’ll focus solely on Week 1 predictions without going into too much detail. You’ll see kick-off times, which team is more likely to get the three points, and so on.
Friday Kick-offs the 2022/23 Premier League Season
Arsenal will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park Stadium at 20:00 GMT on Friday. The Gunners are favoured to win but things could go either way. Around 53% of predictions say that Arsenal will get their first 3 points of the season, 25% favour a draw, and 22% think that Palace will win. Sky Sports will be covering the match.
To give our short Premier League Week 1 predictions on this, we also think that Arsenal will win this one. For detailed match predictions including injury reports, preseason performances, and more, check out our Crystal Palace v Arsenal betting tips.
Premier League Week 1 Predictions for Saturday
Saturday holds a busy schedule as there will be six matches on 6 August, including four at the same time. Bournemouth, Villa, Leeds, Wolves, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Spurs, and Southampton will all play from 15:00.
Early Bird Gets the Worm
Newly promoted Fulham will face Community Shield winners Liverpool at an early kick-off of 12:30 at Craven Cottage. This is also one of two matches that will receive more coverage on Saturday. BT Sport will be handling this one; we’ll talk about the other one later on in this article. It’s needless to say that Liverpool are heavily-favoured in this matchup. Over 70% of predictions back the Reds compared to the 10% that favour Fulham. The rest are leaning towards a draw. You can see the exact odds in our Fulham v Liverpool betting tips.
The 15:00 Matches
The Bournemouth-Villa match isn’t as one-sided as the ones we mentioned before. The match will be at Dean Court. Bournemouth returned to the Premier League after their two-year-long absence. Villa only finished 14th last season but they’re still considered the stronger team.

They won two of their pre-season matches and drew 2-2 with United. Over 40% of Premier League Week 1 predictions favour Villa to start their season with 3 points. 28% are in favour of both a Bournemouth win and a draw. We’re leaning towards Villa as well.
Leeds v Wolves Might be the Most Balanced Matchup of Week 1 – Premier League Predictions
The Leeds v Wolves match could easily be an entertaining one as well. Despite predictions giving Leeds a slight advantage, nothing is certain. Wolves will travel to Elland Road for their 15:00 Week 1 match. Leeds have 41% to win, while experts give Wolves about 30%. The possibility of a draw is almost 30% as well. Leeds’ pre-season matches went relatively well as they only had one draw, against Palace. We also believe that the home side will win on Saturday. Online sportsbook sites in the UK predict that Wolves will finish below Leeds by the end of the season.
Newcastle Welcome Back Nottingham Forest to the Premier League
Nottingham Forest will head to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle at 15:00 on Saturday. Unless you’re a supporter of any of these 3 o’clock clubs, you might have a hard time choosing which match to watch. Newcastle had an average season last year but they’re expected to finish higher after this campaign.
Sites like 888sport estimate that the home team will win with around 58% of possibility. Even a draw is more likely than a Nottingham win in Week 1. We expect Newcastle to walk away with 3 points after this one.
Spurs v Southampton – Week 1 Predictions Favour Tottenham
Out of the four matches starting at 15:00, this one will most likely have the highest streaming numbers. Spurs’ preseason was not at all what fans hoped to see but they’re still the obvious favourites for Week 1. Tottenham have around 70% to win plus they’re playing at home. Southampton didn’t have a good preseason either so there’s no performance advantage either. Check out our Spurs v Southampton betting tips for the actual odds and detailed info about the match.
Will Chelsea Carry Their Preseason Performances into Week 1?
Chelsea’s visit to Goodison Park will be the closing match on Saturday. Despite the obvious differences between the two clubs, Chelsea only have about 50%-55% to go back to London with three points. The Blues’ transfer window has been terrible so far. Their 0-4 loss to Arsenal isn’t helping them either.
You can look at our detailed Everton v Chelsea betting tips to see the reasoning behind these Premier League Week 1 predictions. Despite their terrible recent performances, Chelsea still have a good chance to start the season with three points.
Both Manchester Clubs Will Play on Sunday
Sunday, 7 August will have three matches in total, including two that will be covered by Sky Sports. The clubs involved are Leicester, Brentford, Man United, and Brighton all with a 14:00 kick-off. Then the closing match of Premier League Week 1 will be between West Ham and Man City at 16:30.
Leicester v Brentford – Premier League Week 1 Predictions
Brentford will face Leicester at King Power Stadium. Leicester had a decent pre-season but you can always aim for better results. The same goes for Brentford if we don’t look at that trashing by Wolfsburg. All in all, the home side have nearly 50% to win.

A draw and a Brentford win are both around 25%. Leicester were better in away games recently but the home ground is always a great advantage. Online sportsbook sites in the UK are not expecting Leicester to miss out on some Week 1 point.
Man United Look to Overcome Their Last Match Against Brighton
The United – Brighton match will also be covered by Sky Sports. Brighton humiliated United in a 4-0 victory back in May. But still, this Sunday match will be at Old Trafford, with a new manager, new rotations and so a lot of faith is put into a Manchester victory. If you want our detailed Man United v Brighton betting tips follow the link. If not, keep on reading. Experts predict a United win is likely to happen with a 60%-65% possibility. Chances for a draw are around 20%-25% and Brighton winning is about 15%. Based on everything we know, we also think that the Red Devils will finish Week 1 of the Premier League with 3 points.
West Ham and Man City close off Week 1 of the Premier League
This is probably the biggest match of Week 1, if not in competitiveness, in popularity. West Ham had a decent season last year and they’re expected to finish even higher this season. But they’re going against Man City. Even with the home-ground advantage, City are still heavily favoured against West Ham.
Neither club’s preseason matches were admirable so there’s not much leverage there. The kick-off will be at 16:30 with Sky Sports also covering this match. City are expected to win with over 70% of possibility. In comparison, the home club’s chances are around 10% only. For the updated odds and reports check out our West Ham v Man City betting tips.
