The 2022 Tour de France ended on Sunday, which was also the first day of the women’s Tour. The eight-day long stage race is held between the 24th and 31st of July, with the best women cyclists fighting for the yellow jersey. The 2022 Tour de France Women predictions mention three-time world champion and Giro Donne winner Annemiek van Vleuten as the main favorite. But other top Dutch riders like Demi Vollering and Marianne Vos can also compete for the overall victory.

The first women’s Tour de France was held in 1955 with 41 riders taking part in it, but it wasn’t a success. The race only returned in the 1980s, when it ran along with the men’s race. It was organized by the same organization that organized the men’s event. But they closed the women’s race down in 1989. Between 1992 and 2009 a race called Tour Cycliste Feminin was held but it lacked sponsorship and media coverage.

In 2014 a one-day race was organized after a petition signed by 100,000 people. La Course by Le Tour de France ran until 2019. While last year the launch of a new, 8-day stage race was announced. So the women’s Tour de France alias Tour de France Femmes returned to the cycling calendar this year. 144 riders from 24 teams are taking part in it, including the biggest stars of the sport.

2022 Tour de France Women’s Predictions Favor van Vleuten Ahead of Her Compatriots

Annemiek van Vleuten is a three-time world champion, she won the time trial race twice and the road race in 2019.  The Dutch cyclist has also won the women’s Giro d’Italia, and Giro Rosa three times so far. And the predecessors of this race were the 2010 La Route de France, and the one-day race, the La Course in 2017 and 2018.

We can also find several one-day classic wins next to her names like the Strade Bianche and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Along with a gold and silver medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 39-year-old Movistar rider is one of the best cyclists of all time and is favored to win the Tour by online sportsbooks in France. They offer the smallest odds, 1.25 for her victory.

One of her biggest rivals can be her compatriot, Demi Vollering who finished third in last year’s Giro Rosa. She won 2021 The Women’s Tour and this year’s Itzulia Women which is a three-day race in the Basque Country. Vollering also won the 2021 Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the 2021 La Course. The 25-year-old rider missed this year’s Giro to arrive fresher at the Tour. She is not as experienced as van Vleuten, and the mountains in the last two stages might be too tough for her. Still, the 2022 Tour de France Women predictions mention Vollering as the main challenger with the odds of 3.74 to beat her.

Vos, Moolman-Pasio, and Borghini in Other Favorites

Another Dutch cyclist, Marianne Vos is also among the favorites based on her previous results. She is a three-time road race world champion and the gold medalist from the 2012 London Olympics. The 35-year-old rider also won the Giro Rosa three times before, in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

But she couldn’t finish the race in the last few years. This season her best result was two stage wins in the 2022 Giro. And a second-place finish in the one-day classic, Gent-Wevelgem. As a Jumbo-Visma rider Vos will be surely motivated by the men’s team’s successes. She has already won a stage in the event and wars the yellow jersey at the moment. Her odds to win the overall race are 8.00.

Online gambling sites in France offer the same odds for the victory of Vallering’s teammate at SD Worx, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. The South African is very good at the hills and has victories in one-day races. While she also finished as a runner-up in the 2018 and 2021 Giro Rosa. Trek-Segafredo’s rider Elisa Longo Borghini is another top climber who won the 2022 Women’s Tour last month. While she also got the victory at the 2022 Paris-Roubaix which was her sixth one-day classic win. The bronze medalist of the road race in the 2020 Olympics has the odds of 11.00 to finish on top now.
