Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will feature world-class established names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, and Heung-min Son. Except for Uruguay, all four teams are looking to secure their first-ever World Cup but the road is still long and full of peril. In this article, we’ll be covering Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea, or Group H. You’ll also find the betting predictions for each team down below.
Our Early World Cup Group H Betting Predictions
Portugal and Uruguay have faced all of their Group H opponents in the World Cup before. History is filled with colorful results, upsets, great comebacks, and controversial decisions. This year’s World Cup will also be the first time that Ghana and South Korea will face off against each other in the tournament. The stage is set. Portugal, UEFA Group A runners-up, Ghana CAF Group G winners with triumphs over higher-ranked South Africa and Nigeria, 3rd place CONMEBOL participants Uruguay, and lastly, South Korea, runners-up of Group A of the AFC. These are our World Cup Group H betting predictions.
Portugal Start As Early Favorites To Win Group H at This Year’s World Cup
Portugal has been a decent World Cup team in the 21st century or the “Ronaldo era”. Before Cristiano arrived, Portugal qualified for two tournaments, in 1966 and 1986. Surprisingly, their best result was finishing third, in 1966. This year will be the nation’s sixth consecutive appearance.
Additionally, 2022 will also be Ronaldo’s fifth World Cup, which will put him in the company of Carbajal, Matthäus, and Marquez. On 20Bet Sportsbook, Portugal’s odds of winning the group is 1.65. Even if they don’t finish first, they’re very likely to qualify for the next round with odds of 1.18. Portugal was ranked 8th in the world by FIFA, just one place behind archrivals Spain.
Ghana and Their Revenge Tour Against Uruguay
Except for this year, Ghana only qualified for the World Cup three times, in 2006, 2010, and 2014. Despite their lack of experience against tournament casuals, Ghana’s young 2006 team is still praised today for their performance. Not only they were the youngest team that year but they were also the only African team to advance to the Round of 16. In 2010, they reached the quarter-finals which earned them even more respect. The problem is, that the World Cup Group H betting predictions don’t see the African side progressing too far. They’re in a tough group with past rivals, Uruguay. Ghana’s odds of finishing atop their group are 11.93. Their odds of advancing to the next round aren’t much better either with 10.07. Let’s see if they can surpass their 2010 run.
Can Uruguay Return To Its Glorious Past?
The South American country has won the World Cup twice so logically they would be the favorites in their group. Except for the highlight, the last time they won the tournament was 72 years ago and things are a bit different now. This is also their 14th World Cup appearance. In their three most recent appearances they achieved honorable results.
They knocked Ghana out to earn fourth place in 2010, finished higher in their group than Italy and England, and lost in the quarter-final against the eventual champions, France. On online sportsbooks in Portugal, Uruguay has good odds of qualifying for the next round or even winning their group. Their odds of winning are 2.99 and 3.00 for advancing. In the most recent rankings, FIFA put Uruguay as the 13th best in the world.
Watch Out For South Korea In The World Cup – Group H Betting Predictions
This year will be South Korea’s 11th World Cup appearance and also their 10th consecutive one. The thing is, in their 11 appearances, they only advanced past the group stage twice. First in 2002, when they finished fourth, and then in 2010 when they were knocked out in the Round of 16. The 2002 campaign was also their best result. On 20Bet Sportsbook, their odds of winning Group H are the same as Ghana’s, 11.93. Despite their great performance in the AFC and Son’s historical season, World Cup betting predictions are against the South Koreans. Their performance has been consistently progressing over the past couple of years but it might be too early to pick them over Portugal or Uruguay for example. The men’s national football team was recently ranked 29th in the world by FIFA.
