The 2021/22 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup continues this weekend in Wengen, Switzerland with the men’s slalom competition. It is one of the last races ahead of the Winter Olympics, offering another opportunity to race before the big event. The 2022 Wengen slalom odds favor slalom specialist Clement Noel to win the event, but several other top skiers can also get the victory.
In the previous slalom race of the 2021/22 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Adelboden, fans could witness a small miracle. As Austrian Johannes Strolz won the race starting with bib 38. It was the 29-year-old skier’s first World Cup victory. In spite of coming from a successful family as his father won the combined gold medal in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Strolz moved to third place in the slalom world cup, level on points with Clement Noel. But the current leaders of the world cup are Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevag and Swedish Kristoffer Jakobsen, whose performance is also unexpected. In the next race in Switzerland, the more familiar names are the main favorites. But as we can see, anything can happen in this discipline too.
Noel and Feller lead the 2022 Wengen slalom odds
Clement Noel is a three-time runner-up of the Slalom World Cup who also finished fourth in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. This season the 24-year-old skier is currently in third place in the World Cup after winning the first race in Val d’Isere. It was his ninth World Cup victory in his career. And he can easily get his next one now in Wengen. Online sportsbooks in Switzerland offer the smallest odds, 2.875 for his win. Noel has already won here twice before which explains his odds.
Another skier with good results from this slope is Manuel Feller, who finished second in the race here in 2019. The Austrian also finished second in the previous event in Adelboden last weekend. But he is only in 9th place in the overall standings. While the 29-year-old finished fourth in last year’s Slalom World Cup. Feller’s best result is a silver medal from the 2017 World Championship in this discipline, but he also got World Cup podium finishes in giant slalom. The 2022 Wengen slalom odds offer him the odds of 8.50 to get another victory this weekend.
Current World Cup leaders and Pinturault are also favorites
As we mentioned, Sebastian Foss-Solevag and Kristoffer Jakobsen lead the Slalom World Cup at the moment, level on points. The Norwegian won this year’s race in Madonna di Campiglio a few weeks ago which was his second World Cup victory. Foss-Solevag also won the 2021 World Championship so his great performance is not a huge surprise. Unlike his Swedish rival, Jakobsen whose best result has been a 7th-place finish in the 2018 Winter Olympics. In the World Cup, he was only 21st last season, but thanks to his two podiums this year, he is leading the overall standings.
Online gambling sites in Switzerland offer the odds of 9.50 and 13.00 for their victories now. The 2021 Overall World Cup winner Alexis Pinturault is also mentioned in the favorites. The French champion is specialized in giant slalom, but he also races in slalom events. This season he has a second-place finish from the Italian race. Pinturault also got a win in Wengen a couple of years ago. Now his odds to finish on top are 10.00. Meanwhile the defending Slalom World Cup champion, Marco Schwarz hasn’t been in top form this season. He couldn’t finish the first two races and was only 24th in the third event last weekend. The Austrian would need a huge improvement to finish on the podium. He has the odds of 21.00 on 22Bet to win the race.
