They lied to us. Sci-fi writers insisted by this point in the 21st century we’d have flying cars, hovering skateboards, and global peace. Likewise, those who touted a takeover of traditional sports by counterparts on computers and game consoles were also wrong. Sure, you can obtain all the odds on E-sports you like at online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365. Easy. But, can you name a player? A team? A champion? No of course not, because E-sports have some issues.
The E-sports revolution will not be televised. Indeed, you’ll find it quite tricky to watch it at all. This is partly because traditional media appear allergic to it, but mostly because there isn’t one. We might have all braced ourselves to watch beloved sports swept away in favor of joysticks and controllers, but it hasn’t happened. Yes, the industry is expanding and has many loyal fans, but it has a few bugs it’ll never patch. The odds on E-sports replacing traditional sports are now a joke.
We’ll often mutter that some sports don’t change. We bemoan the static nature of football or cricket as they lag behind the rest of reality in one way or another. However whilst we’ll all blithely accept that, we don’t have the same goodwill towards anything technological. Phone two years old? Ditch it. Quick. Before someone sees. Thus, whilst you can get odds on E-sports at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365, you’re probably not going to bet on E-sports at all.
You Can’t Play CS:GO Forever And Expect People To Care
Now there are many reasons for this but primary amongst them is this failure to take gaming to our hearts. DOTA2 (Defense of the Ancients 2) and LOL (League of Legends) are still big games in the E-sports world. You can get odds on E-sports tournaments featuring both at Bet365. But, neither are new and neither now look it. How soon until Fortnite or PUBG look just as dated? This creates a massive problem for the E-sports community when it comes to fan base expansion.

How can you retain fans when the game they love watching just got dropped? Chances are, you can’t. So the odds on E-sports ever gaining the numbers that watch soccer or cricket are idiotic. You’d be better off putting a bet on E-sports saving the world, than conquering it. Sure, as time goes on, the next generations might follow E-sports more closely. Just don’t expect UK gambling laws to change to especially accommodate them just yet. They’re just not that notable.
Bet365 Carries All The Odds On E-Sports
The odds on E-sports remain a backwater because fathers do not pass on gaming to their sons. Or, if they do, they don’t play the same games. So, there is no passing-down of E-sports. Not like football, or cricket, or basketball, or hockey. Or, indeed, any other traditional sport parents and children might watch and enjoy together. E-sports do not have that hook and never will. Try getting your kids to play a computer game from 20 years ago as opposed to Far Cry 6. Good luck.
“E-sports will rival the biggest traditional sports leagues in terms of future opportunities.”
- Steve Bornstein – Blizzard
Nearly everyone in the world has heard of Lionel Messi, Tom Brady or Virat Kohli and the sports they play. Barely anyone can name an E-sports league, let alone anyone in one. Even if we sat down and paid attention by the time we could name one, the tech and the games would change and it wouldn’t matter anymore. That’s why if you like to bet on sports in the UK you probably won’t now, nor ever, check out the odds on E-sports before those on more traditional events.

We take a look at the major issue that keeps the odds on E-sports as just a tiny backwater of the online gaming business.
