See what the YouGov study found
We are probably all aware of the fact that men and women are quite different in many ways. But you have probably never wondered about how they are gambling differently. However, now there is a new study that shows some gender differences in online gambling. And what does that exactly say? Keep on reading to find out!
There are some general understandings about how men and women live their lives in different ways. They have differences when it comes to eating when it comes to working when it comes to communication, but we could go on and on with the list. Also, now a brand new study revealed that they have various approaches to online gambling too. It was YouGov to conduct the study in Great Britain, to point out the gender differences in online gambling. And so they did! But what did they find, when drawing the conclusions? Well, we are here to tell you everything about it!
Why Do Women Gamble?
As mentioned above, YouGov conducted a study on gender differences in online gambling. They found that 40% of women gamble because they find it a fun thing to do. In the meantime, 28% of them gamble because they like to fantasize about winning. The third runner-up, concerning gambling reasons, is winning big – 17% start to spin some slots or make some bets because they would like to be rich this way. While 7% try it because they wish to enhance the experience. Only 6% wager, because it is a speaking topic with friends, or because it is a kind of routine for them.
There are also some other minor reasons, like the fear of missing out, to demonstrate a skill, or because they believe that this is a reliable way to make money. (Here, we need to emphasize that gambling is never a promise to win, it is just a possibility!)
Gender Differences in Online Gambling
Now, you might be wondering, how men and women use online gambling sites in the UK differently. Because believe us – and the study – men and women do not behave the same way on sites like FanTeam Sportsbook. Let us start with some numbers on how many men and women wager regularly. Well, when asked in the study 33% of men placed a bet in the past 12 months, while only 24% of women. There were some gender stereotypes that got confirmed as well. Like: women prefer the lottery, 72% of them buy tickets, while only 58% of men. Also, women play more bingo and keno online (6%), than men (2%). It cannot come as a surprise, that men prefer sports betting (45%), while it only interests 23% of women. And this is the same with poker: guys (7%) like it better than the ladies (1%)!
Stereotypes Confirmed
Now, you can see that several stereotypes were confirmed with the YouGov study. The gender differences in online gambling are quite permanent. The strict attitude towards prohibiting online gambling reaffirms this. 45% of women would ban online gambling altogether, while only 39% of men say the same. So, it is still true: you can see more men customers on online sportsbook sites in the UK, such as FanTeam Sportsbook. However, women still stick to buy lottery tickets. This only might be surprising, because, in the age of emancipation, we might be expecting a little change in this field too. Well, we are going to have to wait it out!
