After the second corner at Paul Ricard you’d have bet on Lewis Hamilton winning the French Grand Prix. He failed, or perhaps, Mercedes failed. Red Bull, on the other hand, won. However just because Max Verstappen is now 12 points ahead doesn’t mean this season is over. Yes, Red Bull are now leading the Constructors championship odds at online betting sites in Austria like Bet365. True. However, you can bet on F1 in 2021 having a few more surprises up its sleeves.
There’s nothing quite like spending a Sunday afternoon watching the smug-gasm that is Lewis Hamilton fail. The diminutive Englishman could only watch as rival Max Verstappen overtook with a lap or so to go in France. Red Bull had outfoxed Mercedes once again. This not only puts Max ahead in the driver’s championship but the team in the constructor’s too. Red Bull getting better Constructors championship odds than Mercedes? That’s almost sacrilege, isn’t it?
You can bet on Lewis Hamilton thinking so. Max Verstappen had kindly given up his pole position going wide on turn two, handing Lewis the lead. You’d have bet on Mercedes capitalizing on that sort of error. They didn’t. As everyone else went to a two-stop strategy Toto Wolff and co clung to a one-stop tactic. Epic fail. Mercedes failing to adapt? Whatever next? Well, online sportsbook sites in Austria like Bet365 certainly have some idea. Just look the odds.
Mercedes One Stop Gamble Fails To Pay Off In France
Bet365 is now offering identical odds on Max Verstappen as for a bet on Lewis Hamilton. A year ago that would have been unthinkable. Now it seems parsimonious. A lot of people will bet on Max Verstappen building on his 12 point lead. Bet on Red Bull to win the constructor’s season. However, you should be cautious. Just because online bookies in Austria and elsewhere changed their odds, doesn’t mean you should bet on Mercedes just folding up under the pressure. They won’t.
2021 Drivers Championship Odds
- Anyone Else – 500/1+
- Valtteri Bottas – 150/1
- Sergio Perez – 66/1
- Lewis Hamilton – 5/6
- Max Verstappen – 5/6

The odds on Mercedes collapsing are astronomical, but they will have to do some soul searching. Just what went wrong? Was it a gamble that didn’t pay off? If so it was a daft wager. Worse still at least some of the team saw it coming. Valtteri Bottas was beside himself with anger in France. “Why the f*** does no one listen to me when I say it’s going to be a two stopper?” He burbled into the radio. Anyone in Austria gambling laws of common sense will mean they do next time is mad.
You Can Still Bet On Lewis Hamilton Bouncing Back At Bet365
Listening to Valtteri Bottas won’t solve Mercedes’ problem. They don’t have a fast enough car to compete with Red Bull, so have taken to complaining instead. This time it was tire pressures, last time it was flexi wings. You can bet on the Styrian Grand Prix to occur with a scandal about Max Verstappen’s facial hair bubbling in the background. Plus, of course, you can always bet on Lewis Hamilton to throw passive-aggressive shade around like an umbrella at a beach barbeque.
Bet On The 2021 Constructors Championship
- Anyone Else – 500/1+
- Ferrari – 66/1
- Mercedes – 11/10
- Red Bull – 4/6
So you’ll now find the odds on Red Bull are better than those on Mercedes. However, with the odds on Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen level pegging, they could be precipitate. There is still a long way to go and I’d not bet on Lewis Hamilton’s ego moving over easily just because he’s losing. Still, that means we get another few afternoons this year when we can watch the most entitled man in sports fall off his perch. Once again, F1 is a great bet on sports in Austria this weekend.
