The 2021 Tour de France starts this Saturday, the 26th of June with a hilly stage between Brest and Landerneau. The two young stars, Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert can fight for the victory. But French fans hope for a local success by Julian Alaphilippe who is also mentioned in the favorites by the 2021 Tour de France Stage 1 odds.

After the brilliant 2021 Giro d’Italia, cycling fans can follow the most awaited event of the season, the 2021 Tour de France. The 3-week race starts this Saturday with a relatively flat stage. Though there will be four fourth-category climbs and two third-category climbs with a tough uphill finish. So we can rule out typical sprinters from the possible favorites and expect cyclists with good records on this kind of terrain. While 7-time green jersey winner Peter Sagan can also do well on the stage just like the biggest talents of the Benelux countries. Last year Norwegian Alexander Kristoff won the first stage but that had a classic sprint finish. Now we should see a different kind of race in the North-Western part of Brest where the Tour begins this year.

2021 Tour de France Stage 1 odds favor van der Poel

Online sportsbooks in France offer the smallest odds, 3.94 for the victory of Dutch talent Mathieu van der Poel who will make his Tour de France debut this year. The Alpecin-Felix rider started the season perfectly after winning the Strade Biance. And finishing on the podium in the Tour of Flanders and Saxo Bank Classic races. But the Tour de France is another category with all the best riders taking part in it. Van der Poel also got stage wins in several longer events though. Like this year’s UAE Tour or Tour de Suisse which was held only a few weeks ago in similar conditions.

His biggest rival can be Belgian Wout van Aert who also got some great results this season. He won the Gent-Wevelgem and the Amstel Gold Race one-day events. And finished on the podium in the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Milan-San Remo classic. The Belgian road champion has already won four stages in the 2019 and 2020 Tour de France. And following his form he could have challenged for the yellow jersey in the first week. But the Jumbo-Visma rider had surgery for appendicitis last month which might lower his chances. Still van Aert has the odds of 7.30 to win on Saturday according to the 2021 Tour de France Stage 1 odds.

Can Alaphilippe make the fans happy?

We can’t miss out from the favorites the current road world champion, Julian Alaphilippe, who has the odds of 7.60 at the 22BET Sportsbook. The French rider finished second behind van der Poel in the Strade Bianche. Plus he was the runner-up in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic. While the Quick-Step rider also won the 2021 La Fleche Wallonne. Alaphilippe had superb starts in the last two Tour de Frances after winning early stages both times. Now he will aim to get the yellow jersey on the first day with this hilly stage matching his skills.

Online gambling sites in France don’t forget about the sprint king Peter Sagan, who also performs well on difficult finishes. The Slovakian will try to win his 8th green jersey this year. He has a big chance of doing so in the absence of last year’s winner, Sam Bennett. Sagan only won one stage in each of his last four Grand Tour appearances though. And the Bora rider might not be able to race for the stage victory with his younger rivals. Meanwhile the biggest favorites to win the overall standing, Primoz Roglic and Tadej Pogacar can do well already on the first stage. Both riders have the odds of 19.00 to start with a win on their 3-week mission.
