Boris Johnson isn’t very popular. The fact he’s more popular than the Labour Party means he can win elections. Which is great. But actual public support? That is less easy to find. Indeed, it starts to appear as if the Conservatives are merely keeping him around to take the all blame. That’s almost traditional. You can always bet on UK politics to periodically feature a stab in the back. That’s why online sportsbook sites in the UK have odds on Boris Johnson leaving before the next election.

So, the new police, crime, sentencing and courts bill is a terrible piece of legislation. It grants the police in the UK the right to prevent protests causing “intimidation or harassment”. Which means if a policeman just claims it’s so, they can stop the protest. Lovely. It also includes the indistinct phrase “serious unease, alarm or distress to bystanders”. Which means anyone can stop any protest at any time. Once you could bet on UK politics retaining a veneer of democracy. Not now.

The thin veil is torn asunder by this new bill. It hands complete power to the police to do as they wish. Gone is the pretense of policing by consent, now they don’t care if you consent or not. You can’t voice your discontentment. Not if they don’t want you to. So, suffer in silence little citizens. But this far from means your bet on UK politics should back the odds on the Conservatives. This may backfire on the government. Anyone in the UK gambling laws changing goes unnoticed is insane.

Bill Woes Make Bojo 11/2 To Get Ousted In This Year

The riots in Bristol are just the tip of the iceberg. Once the weather improves you can expect similar protests everywhere else. British PM, Boris Johnson, will naturally support the police. Unfortunately, the police do themselves no favors. Their reputation continues to take a beating. Stories about officers who are rapists or members of racists groups do not engender trust in the public. But don’t bet on UK politics changing tact because the public don’t like it. Boris doesn’t listen.

Boris Exit Date Odds

  • 2021 – 11/2
  • 2022 – 9/2
  • 2023 – 9/2
  • 2024+ – 8/11
  • 2023+ – 1/2
  • 2022+ – 1/7

Like a bet on sports in the UK backing Liverpool to win, this bill is a dangerous and unnecessary. It’s an attack on civil liberties. There are already plenty of laws concerning protests and public disorder. This legislation merely adds a level of interpretative wiggle room for the police to justify any action they take. Naturally, you can bet on the Labour Party to voice concern, but few listen to them now. Meanwhile, most people will bet on the Conservatives getting away with this travesty.

Bet On UK Politics Seeing Summer Of Protests At Bet365

Don’t bet on Boris Johnson or the Conservatives changing their minds. They’re quite happy to use the current situation to their own advantage. Given most protests are against them and their policies naturally they want to curb the options to protest. Naturally, they’ll claim this their new law does precisely the opposite. You can pretty much bet on UK politics to be mostly Orwellian doublespeak these days. This satisfies the Westminster village. It leaves everyone else angry.

  • Green Majority – 500/1
  • Lib Dem Majority – 200/1
  • Labour Majority – 7/2
  • Conservative Majority – 6/4

Thus you have legislation to quell protests in of itself causing protests. It’s a law that invalidates itself. Classic. There was violence in Bristol and it won’t end there. Having had their freedoms curtailed for other reasons recently no one in the UK is going to agree to a further erosion of them. So if you want to bet on UK politics at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365 you may want to look at the odds on Boris Johnson getting the boot. Someone will have to carry this can. The Conservatives will make it him.
