World No1 Ashleigh Barty is the top favorite ahead of Muguruza and Kvitova
Top female tennis players compete this week in Charleston where the next WTA Tour event is held. The WTA Charleston winner odds favor the current world No1, Ashleigh Barty to win but other favorites like Kenin and Kvitova can also take the trophy. The winner of the 2019 open is Madison Keys, who will also return this year to defend her title.
The Charleston Open is the oldest professional women’s tournament as the first event was held in 1973. It is played on clay courts and belongs to the first events of the clay season every year. Even though it is only a WTA 500 tournament we can find the biggest players in the previous winners. From Chris Evert to Steffi Graf while Serena Williams has also won here on three occasions. Last year’s event was cancelled so the defending champion is the 2019 winner, Madison Keys, who won her first clay court title here. Now the 26-year old will be back to defend her title but she won’t have an easy job in the strong field. Which includes several top 20 players and world No1 Ashleigh Barty.
Barty and Muguruza lead the WTA Charleston winner odds
Following her victory in Miami, Ashleigh Barty can continue her winning streak in Charleston now according to online sportsbooks in the US. They offer the smallest odds, +300 for her victory in their WTA Charleston winner odds. The Australian world No1 played confidently in Miami. She led in the final against Canadian Bianca Andreescu when her opponent had to retire. The 24-year-old star also won the Yarra Valley Classic on home soil and reached the quarterfinals in the 2021 Australian Open. Now Barty will compete in Charleston where she only had two previous appearances so far. But following her recent form the 2019 French Open champion has a great chance of winning again.
One of her biggest rivals can be another French Open winner, Garbine Muguruza, who has the odds of +400 to win her 9th title. The Spanish player has already met Barty this year in the final of the Yarra Valley Classic but lost there in straight sets. She also reached the final of the Qatar Open but she was defeated by Petra Kvitova. Finally Muguruza got her first victory of the season in the Dubai Tennis Championship. Now the former world No1 will start her clay season in Charleston where she made her first and last appearance ten years ago.
Other top players are also in the favorites
Petra Kvitova is the third seed of the tournament and has the odds of +650 to win here. As we mentioned Kvitova won the Qatar Open this March. Her victory also meant that she has won titles in three different decades. She reached the fourth round in Miami when Elina Svitolina stopped her. Now the Czech player can achieve another great result in this Premier event. Even though clay is not her strongest surface.
Online gambling sites in the US also mention a local favorite, Sofia Kenin with the odds of +1000. The world No4 started the season well after reaching the quarter-finals in Abu Dhabi and at the Yarra Valley Classic. But in spite of being the defending champion, she was already knocked out in the second round in the 2021 Australian Open. The 2020 Roland Garros finalist has the opportunity to improve on her results on clay now. While her compatriot, Madison Keys has the odds of +1800 to defend her title. The world No19 will only make her fourth appearance this season in the tournament where she always performs well. As beside her victory in 2019 Keys also reached the final in 2015 and the semi-finals in 2018.
