The Welsh will long remember their victory over England. It has done their Six Nations odds no end of good. Online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 are now offering odds on Wales winning the Six Nations of just 6/5. Thus Wales are now favorites ahead of the French. That’s quite the turnaround. So, if you bet on Wales to win the Six Nations you’ll be on the edge of your seat going into the fourth round. If you’re an England fan you’re probably at the end of your tether.
“There is no point talking about it now.” Said England Captain Owen Farrell. “That is for everyone else to talk about.” Which, during a post-match interview, is a tad brusque. It’s precisely the right time to talk about the game, surely? Especially when there was so much to discuss. Sadly, some sour fans will say you can now bet on Wales to win the Six Nations because of the referee. Okay, his decisions were, at times, a bit questionable, but then that’s sport, isn’t it?
“They were worth winners.” Eddie Jones admitted after the game, qualifying that by saying; “They get points maybe they don’t deserve and we have to fight to get back into the game.” Not that he’s about to complain about the refereeing. He knows that doesn’t explain England’s loss. It just added to it. The Welsh would clearly have won anyway. That’s why a bet on Wales to win the Six Nations gets such low prices at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365. So will they win?
Referee’s Decisions Were Questionable At Times
Well, the Welsh go on to play Italy in the fourth round leaving the French for last. They will easily overcome Italian opposition. The odds on Italy are so long you could cross the Adriatic on them. Of course, a bet on Wales to beat Italy is not quite the same as a bet on Wales to win the Six Nations. Even online bookies in the UK know the French could still upset this winning streak. They may have won the Triple Crown beating all the home nations, but France are a different challenge.

Likewise picking between Scotland and Ireland is a bit of a challenge too. Scotland get the best of it, with some sites quoting Evens on them, but Bet365 gives the Irish 5/6 so that’s up in the air. Oddly after England’s crash landing their odds against France are surprisingly good. Those taking advantage of UK gambling laws will find them at around 8/11. This compares quite well with the 6/5 the French are getting. After that defeat, you would expect them to be far longer.

Naturally, expectations are a dangerous habit in sports. Most people might have bet on France expecting them to win easily, but that appears in doubt. Similarly, if you expected sensible behavior on social media get ready for disappointment. Following England’s defeat, angry fans let loose a tirade against anyone they could think of. Pascal Gauzere, the referee, got a fair amount of stick, as did Ellis Genge who received death threats for not clapping the winning team off the pitch.
Odds On 4th Round
- Italy – 16/1 vs 1/00 – Wales
- England – 8/11 vs 6/5 – France
- Scotland – 6/5 vs 21/20 – Ireland
The trolls saved the worst, however, for Sonja McLaughlan who handled the post-match interviews. She asked some searching questions of the English side and got a torrent of online abuse for daring to question them at all. Apparently, whilst you can bet on Wales to win the Six Nations, you can’t bet on fans remaining civil. One day you can bet on sports in the UK, and elsewhere, having to address this issue. In the meantime, the Welsh go marching on to victory. Maybe.
