The Giro d’Italia is an annual stage race bicycle race primarily held in Italy, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries (Source: Wikipedia). The race first happened in 1909, and now RCS Sport is the main organiser. Ever since the starting date, they hold the race annually. Now, the Giro gained much prominence and prestige in cycling. Over time, they lengthened the route and started to include riders from all over the world. Corsa Rossa – The awaited route 

With the official unveiling of the route of the 104th Giro d’Italia, riders now know what to expect. The three-week-long cycling tour takes place, according to its name, around the Italian peninsula. Competitors often await the announcement of the route, since the structure of the landscape can highly affect their strengths and weaknesses. The full route, consisting of 21 stages, covers a distance of 3,450.4 kilometres. Also, an elevation gain of over 47,000 metres. The first stage and starting point of the route are in Torino. 

The 21 stages’ landscape varies of course, including flat stages, intermediate stages and mountain stages. There will be two rest days, according to stage difficulty. The race is expected to last from May 8th till the 30th. Judges will measure the times between each stage to keep track of every stage winner. Teams and starts of the 2021 Giro d’Italia 

There are several countries’ teams that will participate. 23 teams have recieved an invitation to take part, with 8 riders each. Online sportsbook news in the US were updated with riders showing the best odds. As of now, the 24-year-old Egan Bernal from Team INEOS has the smallest odds, +175, on Bovada. The Columbian won the Tour de France in 2019, however, his back complained forced him to abandon the defence of his Tour de France title. Reportedly, his objective is to win the upcoming Giro d’Italia and claims that his back pain will not affect his attacking style. He has been preparing relentlessly and decided to skip this year’s Tour de France, to fully dedicate himself to the Italian race. Notably, his spectacular Tour de France 2019 win followed a similar landscape. In 2019, he managed to overcome climber-friendly Parcours, with huge final-week mountain passes. While the back pain can give some concerns, at the Tour de la Provence earlier this month, where he finished second overall and looked like his old self. He is definitely one of the star riders in his team and also in the whole race, with high hopes for his performance. It is going to his first appearance on the Italian grand tour, according to his statement, he has been wanting to enter the race since his first time in Italy.
