Polish Bartosz Zmarzlik is the defending champion and biggest favorite
Though there is some uncertainty about this year’s Speedway World Championship, 10 races have already been confirmed for the season. Last year’s top riders will all take part in the competition again including the defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik. The Polish rider is the main favorite again in the 2021 Speedway WC betting preview, let’s see the others now.
This will be the 76th Speedway World Championship or as it is known since 1995, the Speedway Grand Prix. Last season was a bit shorter with only 8 races, but the organizers are planning 11 events for 2021. The season is scheduled to start in April with the Italian Grand Prix with 7 other European countries also hosting at least one race. This would surely be a great change after the previous year when all races were held in Poland and in the Czech Republic. 15 permanent riders will race in every event along with one wild card. Polish Bartosz Zmarzlik is the defending champion after finishing ahead of Tai Woffinden and Fredrik Lindgren. Who can be his biggest rivals again.
2021 Speedway WC betting preview favor two-time world champion
Bartosz Zmarzlik managed to defend his title last season and became the world champion for the second consecutive year. The Polish rider won four races last season out of eight and finished one more time on the podium. With his latest world title he is only the third rider in Speedway’s history who could win back-to-back titles. But it wasn’t a huge surprise from Zmarzlik who won his first SGP in 2014, at the age of only 19. He has become the youngest winner to do so. Now his odds to win his third title is 3.00 in the 2021 Speedway WC betting preview.
Online sportsbooks in Poland mention Tai Woffinden as his biggest rival. The British rider is a three-time world champion who also finished twice as a runner-up including last season. The 30-year-old star is also the captain of the British team which finished second in the 2016 Speedway World Cup in Manchester. Even though Woffinden couldn’t win any race in 2020, he successfully returned back from his back injury. Now he is ready for another individual title and will surely fight for it in the new season. He has the odds of 5.00 to get it at the end of the season.
Riders from the North
Swedish Fredrik Lindgren finished third in the 2020 World Championship which was his second bronze medal in three years. He was close to even winning the title after going to the last round in 2nd place. But after a technical issue he had to settle with the lowest spot on the podium. The 35-year-old can try again in the new season his mission after recovering fully from his hand operations. He has the odds of 9.00 for winning the title.
While another rider from the North, Danish Leon Madsen is also mentioned with the same odds by online gambling sites in Poland. The 2018 European Speedway champion finished fifth last season and led the Danish team to a third place in the 2020 Speedway of Nations. After finishing as a runner-up in the Grand Prix in 2019, Madsen will try to achieve a better result again. Just like Russian Emil Sayfutdinov who is a two-time European champion and Speedway of Nations winner with the Russian team. Last season he finished only in 8th place in the world championship but also has the odds of 9.00 now to top the standings.
