The winner of the last race, Alexis Pinturault is the top favorite again
The 2020-21 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup continues in Italy this weekend with the men’s giant slalom race. In the Santa Caterina Men’s Giant Slalom odds the winner of the last race, Alexis Pinturault is the favorite but several other names are also mentioned with a chance of winning.
Originally this weekend’s race was scheduled to be held in Val d’Isere but the lack of snow forced organizers to move it to Italy. Santa Caterina Valfurva will host the Alpine World Cup’s next events, two giant slalom races on the 5th and 6th of December. The tournament returns to Santa Caterina after four years, when it hosted the men’s Super-G and Alpine combined race. Alexis Pinturault won the latter and can try to get another victory in this great resort. But he won’t have an easy job on the Deborah Compagnoni slope which is 3,300m long. The skiers will start the race at 2065m and face the Gimondi Curve on their route until reaching the finish line at 1754m.
Santa Caterina Men’s Giant Slalom odds predict tight race between top favorites
Online sportsbooks in Italy favor Pinturault to win the race with the odds of 5.00. But several other skiers are following him closely in the odds. The French skier currently leads the overall ranking after winning the last race in Lech, Austria. It was his 30th World Cup victory, while he also became the first person to win a World Cup race in six different disciplines. As we mentioned Pinturault has also won in Santa Caterina before though it was in a different discipline. But the 2019 combined world champion is in great form and can get another great result here.
His biggest rival can be Henrik Kristofferson again, who finished only 0,11 seconds behind him in the previous race. The defending slalom and giant slalom world cup champion can take revenge now and get the win here. Giant slalom is the Norwegian’s strongest discipline as he is also the 2019 World Champion and the Olympic silver medalist from 2018. Kristofferson has the odds of 6.00 now in the Santa Caterina Men’s Giant Slalom odds.
Other skiers who can get the victory
This season’s first race was won by another Norwegian alpine skier, Lucas Braathen. Online gambling sites in Italy also mention him in the favorites with the odds of 8.00. The young athlete won his first World Cup race in Solden. A pretty good result from the skier who started as a footballer and only joined skiing at a late age. As he got his first victory in a giant slalom race, Braathen might have a chance for another great result in Italy.
But another young talent, Swiss Marco Odermatt has an even better chance of winning with the odds of 6.00 on bet365. Odermatt finished second in Soelden after producing the fastest second run. So he could climb back to the podium from the 7th place. He is the 2016 and 2018 Junior World Champion in Giant slalom which is his specialty. Odermatt won his first World Cup race last year in Beaver Creek in Super-G. So he can easily get his second victory in Santa Caterina.
