Netherlands are the favorite with van Gerwen, but Wales and England are also strong
The 10th edition of the PDC World Cup of Darts takes place this weekend, 6-8 November in Salzburg, Austria. Scotland are the defending champions. But they are not the top favorites this time after the withdrawal of Peter Wright and Gary Anderson. In the PDC World Cup odds we checked the favorites for the final victory from the 32 participating teams.
The teams of 32 countries compete in the PDC World Cup of Darts tournament this weekend, with the 8 top teams being seeded. In each team two players represent their countries, who are usually the top-ranked players on the PDC Order of Merit. Scotland won the tournament last year with Peter Wright and Gary Anderson but both of them have withdrawn from this season’s event. In their absence England became the top seed ahead of Wales and the Netherlands. Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen are both playing for their countries.
PDC World Cup odds favor Dutch victory
Just like in the individual competitions, bookmakers favor Michael van Gerwen and his team, the Netherlands, to win in their PDC World Cup odds. They have the odds of 3.25 to get the trophy. Even though van Gerwen hasn’t been in his best form recently and has been knocked out in the second round of the European Championship last week. But he is still world No1 who has already won this event three times before along with Raymond van Barneveld. Now he will pair up with Danny Noppert whose best result so far is a second-place finish in the World Series finals last year.
Online sportsbooks in Austria predict the team of Wales to be their biggest rivals with the odds of 3.75. With Gerwyn Price and Johnny Clayton they seem to have a very strong team. They are a big favorite to finally win the World Cup now after two lost finals. Price has been playing in top form this season after winning the World Series of Darts finals. And also the World Grand Prix a few weeks ago. His partner, Clayton defeated van Gerwen at the beginning of the year. He also got to the semi-finals in the UK Open and last week in the European Championship. They will start against Russia on Friday and can meet Scotland in the next round.
Top seed England can also win the Cup
Online gambling sites in Austria also mention England in the favorites with the odds of 4.50. The English team has already won the event four times, just like the Netherlands. The duo of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis competed on all occasions. But now last year’s pair, Michael Smith and Rob Cross will fight for the victory. Both players belong to the top players, they are 4th and 5th on the world ranking. Cross got to the final of the World Series of Darts this September while Smith was the runner-up in the 2020 Masters. They are the top seed of the tournament and will be a tough opponent for anyone.
While reigning champions Scotland only have the odds of 81.00 after none of their top players, neither Wright, nor Anderson will take part in the tournament. They have been replaced by John Henderson and Robert Thornton. They are both experienced players but don’t belong to the top 30 players in the world ranking. Scotland will start against Japan where they are still favored to win the game with the odds of 1.53 on Betway.
