Bet365 is disappointed with Romania’s actions and the company is considering to challenge the authorities’ recent decision to Blacklist them in the country.
As previously reported, Romania blacklisted Bet365 and revoked their temporary online gambling license in the country. Following their competitors bwin.party, Bet365 was the second big brand added to the list. After the initial surprise, Bet365 is now considering to contest the decision of the National Office for Gambling in Romania. This move would be well-founded, as Bet365 claims that they fulfilled all the set requirements.
Lack of clear instructions for operators
The National Office for Gambling did not reveal the exact reasons for Bet365 blacklisting. According to online gambling news outlets, the reason is that Bet365 did not cease to accept wagers from Romanian citizens. Apparently, the new Romanian gambling laws prescribed to pause services and promotion until October 10. However, operators are complaining that the Romania’s National Office for Gambling did not provide clear instructions.
After the overhaul of internet gambling in Romania, Bet365 announced that they will examine their options in the country. During this period, the betting giant did not accept new Romanian customers. One criterion for a license was to pay back-taxes, which bwin.party reportedly fulfilled. According to Bet365, they’ve also acted in correspondence with the country’s licensing conditions.
Bet365 acted in accordance with the new guidelines
“The company was warned not to allow people who access the website with IPs from Romania or the access of Romanian players and to remit them the money placed in the gaming account,” stated the Romania Journal. The National Office for Gambling explained that blacklist is for those operators that maintained their services before the finalized framework for the new gambling market in Romania.
