AACTA Awards 2020 Predictions: What Will Be the Favourites of the Australian Audience?

The Australian Academy of Cinema Television Arts offer the chance for the audience now to choose their favorite Australian films, stars and programs of the last decade. The shortlist in the film category includes blockbuster Mad Max and animated film Peter Rabbit as well. In the AACTA Awards 2020 predictions we take a look in the favorites of the film and TV drama category. 

In the new initiative of the Australian Academy of Cinema Television Arts all film lovers can make a vote for their favorite Australian screen achievements in the last decade. Thanks to the so-called Audience Choice Awards everyone can choose their favorite Global Star, TV Contestant, Comedy Performer and TV Actor along with their favorite Australian film, TV drama and TV moment of the decade. The panel of screen professionals, producers and critics made  these categories and the shortlist of 10 nominees. Online voting is open now for the public until the 11th of October. While the final five nominees will be announced on the 29th of November. 

AACTA Awards 2020 predictions favor musical The Sapphires to win

Online sportsbooks in Australia offer the smallest odds, 2.50 for the victory of The Sapphires in the Favorite Australian Film of the Decade category. The musical comedy-drama was based on the stage play of the same name. It is a true story about the music group of four Australian women, who visited the troops in the Vietnam war in 1968. It is more a romantic story with lots of music and great performances. The film won 12 awards in the AACTA Awards in 2012 including the Best Film category.

The audience also loved the animated film of Peter Rabbit which is another favorite to win in the AACTA Awards 2020 predictions. Famous English writer Beatrix Potter created the character which had James Corden’s voice in the film. It became the biggest family film of 2018 and has the odds of 4.00 to win the award. While another comedy-drama starring Kate Winslet, The Dressmaker is also favored with the odds of 5.00. In this revenge story the title character, Myrtle Dunnage returns to her hometown. She confronts people who exiled her after the death of her classmate. The film got mixed reviews but still received 13 nominations in the AACTA Awards in 2015. It won five of them including the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Australian Film.

Classic Australian series in the TV drama category

Not surprisingly classic TV series, like Neighbours and Home and Away are also in the shortlist in the Favorite Australian TV Drama category. But they have quite high odds, 7.50 and 8.00 for winning by online gambling sites in Australia. The top favorites in the category are Offspring and Wentworth with the odds of 2.50 and 2.75 on 1xBet. 

Offspring is a comedy-drama program which premiered in 2010. It focuses on the life of obstetrician Nina Proudman, her family and friends. The series was running for seven seasons with an average audience of around 1 million viewers. The big rival, Wentworth is a more serious drama about life in prison. It follows the main character, Bea Smith’s rise to the top of the prison’s hierarchy. The series has its eighth season this year conforming its popularity with the viewers.
