Sprinters Sam Bennett and Caleb Ewan are the favorites to win it
The biggest cycling race in the world, the Tour de France will start this weekend following its postponement from its original date in June. Cyclists will depart from the beautiful town of Nice, where the first two stages will be held. In the Tour de France Stage 1 betting tips sprinters are the favorites for the victory, let’s see who they are.
This will be the 107th Tour de France with 22 teams taking part in it including all 19 UCI World Teams. 8 cyclists are taking part in the competition which will have 21 stages with 8 mountain stages and only one time trial. Columbian cyclist Egan Bernal won the race last year with a really impressive performance and he is in the favorites for the yellow jersey again. But the race will start with this Saturday in Nice with a stage more suited for sprinters. This is the second time the city will hold the Grand Depart after 1981. Of course, the Tour has already visited the capital of the French Riviera several times before, last time in 2013.
Tour de France Stage 1 betting tips favour Irish cyclist to win the first stage
Online sportsbooks in France are offering the smallest odds, 4.32 for the victory of Irish cyclist Sam Bennett. He has won five Grand Tour stages so far. Three in the Giro d’Italia in 2018 and two in last year’s Vuelta. More recently Bennett won a stage in Tour de Wallonie, the four-day Belgian race two weeks ago where he also finished third in the points classification. Though it will be his first Tour de France since 2016, the Quick-Step rider seems to be in great form.
Just like Australian rider Caleb Ewan, who won 3 stages in last year’s Tour de France following his stage wins in the Vuelta and Giro D’Italia earlier. Ewan started the year confidently and won the green jersey in the United Arab Emirates Tour. After the restart of the sport, he also took part in Tour de Wallonie where he won the first stage. He also finished second in the Milano-Torino classic one-day race in August. So no wonder he is also in the top favorites in the Tour de France Stage 1 betting tips with the odds of 4.50.
Other great riders who can get the yellow jersey
Online gambling sites in France are also mentioning Belgian rider Wout van Aert with a chance to get the yellow jersey after the first day. The former cyclo-cross world champion has joined his current team, Jumbo-Visma last year, which is one of the strongest teams in the field. Van Aert won one stage in last year’s Tour, and got great results this year as well. He won the Milan-San Remo and the Strade Bianche one-day races and the green jersey in the Criterium du Dauphine this month.
In the favorites we can find a real legend of the sport, Peter Sagan. The Slovakian three-time world champion has already won 12 stages in the Tour and the points classification, aka the green jersey a record seven times. He finished second in the last stage of the Argentine Vuelta a San Juan this February, and 4th in August on two one-day classics, Milan-San Remo and Milano-Torino. Routine and his previous results can guide him to another victory easily, he has the odds of 9.00 to do so.
