In the Tour of Poland Odds Young Talents Are Head to Head

The 7th UCI World Tour Event, the Tour of Poland will take place this week with all 19 UCI World Teams taking part in it. With only a few weeks to go until the big tours, it’s a perfect race for several cyclists to practice and get back to racing after the long break. Top riders will compete from Simon Yates to Rui Costa and local hero, Rafael Majka. But young talents are the main favourites in the Tour of Poland odds. 

The first Tour de Pologne was organised in 1928, but only became an annual event in 1952. In the 2000s it became more and more professional and a part of the UCI ProTour. The race has been part of the World Tour Event since 2009, giving more prestige to the event. Some of the best cyclists have taken part in the race before. Like 3-time world champion Oscar Freire, 2000 Olympic Champion Viatcheslav Ekimov, or the 2000 Giro d’Italia winner Stefano Garzelli. In the previous race winners, we can find sprint legend Peter Sagan, local favourites Rafal Majka and Michal Kwiatkowski. While last year Russian Pavel Sivakov won the race which is also remembered by the tragic death of Belgian cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht.  This year’s race will start on the one-year anniversary of his death in Chorzow and end in Krakow on Sunday. 

Tour of Poland odds mention German and Belgian riders as favourites

German Maximilian Schachmann has already won one real famous World Tour Event this year. The Paris-Nice race back in March. He seems to be still in great form after finishing 3rd place in last week’s Italian one-day race, Strade Bianche. So it’s not surprising that online sportsbooks in Poland are offering him the odds of 4.50 to win the event. The Bora–Hansgrohe rider had his breakthrough season in 2018 when he won a stage in his first Grand Tour, Giro d’Italia. He also won a bronze medal in the UCI European Road Championships. Last year he won a stage in Volta a Catalunya and the Points Classification in Tour of the Basque Country. 

His biggest rival can be another cyclist in great form, Belgian Remco Evenepoel. The young Quick-Step rider actually started as a football player but switched to cycling in 2017. After winning the junior 2018 UCI Road World Championships he turned professional and continued in a similar style. He won the Tour of Belgium last year and also got his first World Tour victory in Clasica de San Sebastian. This year Evenepoel has been 100% following his victories in the races he was competing so far. Vuelta a San Juan and Volta ao Algarve. He has the smallest odds, 4.32 to finish on top in Poland as well. 

Local hero and other famous riders’ chances

Online gambling sites in Poland certainly mention Polish top cyclist Rafal Majka in the favourites. He has the odds of 15.00 to win the race. The teammate of Schachmann has already won the race in 2014, but since then he has achieved many other successes. Like winning the Polka journey in the Tour de France in 2014 and 2016. And finishing 3rd in the 2015 Vuelta in the general classification. More recently he hasn’t got such great results, but at home surely he will try to perform his best. 

In the Tour of Poland odds, we can find another familiar name, Simon Yates with the odds of 12.00 at the 1xBET Sportsbook. The 2018 Vuelta winner also won two stages in last year’s Tour de France. Plus the Mountain classification in Vuelta a Andalucia. Jakob Fuglsang from Astana will also take part in the race. The silver medallist in the Rio Olympics is a specialist in weekly races. Fuglsang finished 5th in Strade Bianche last week, so his odds of 7.50 to win the tour also seems a plausible option.
