Five goal Lewandowski becomes the latest player to add his name to the list of stars that have gone on a five-goal rout during a single game.
Scoring a brace is great, scoring a hat trick is a marvellous achievement, however scoring five goals in a single game is something only a select few players can do. It doesn’t happen every day that you see a footballer find the back of the net on five occasions during a top flight match. What’s even more impressive is that five goal Lewandowski managed this in only nine minutes, news that immediately surfaced on gambling news sites. And that’s not all!
• Lewandowski joins the quintuple club after getting five past Wolfsburg
• Messi put on a good show with five goals against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012
• Falcao once scored five goals in a game (No, it’s not a joke.)
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola didn’t even play him from the start of the encounter against Wolfsburg, but instead brought him into the game at the beginning of the second half. So, he only had 45 minutes to do this feat, but as we know he did it in only nine! Although this is impressive by any standards, five goal Lewandowski is not the only one to have done this. We will take a look at the other footballers that also managed to score five goals.
Lionel Messi 2011
In the 2011/12 Champions League campaign, Barcelona encountered Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16. The first leg ended in a 3-1 win for the Catalan giants, while in the second leg proved to be the real spectacle. Barcelona thrashed the Germans 7-1 at the Nou Camp, but 5 out of 7 goals came from the Argentine Lionel Messi.
By that time he has already established himself as the best player in the world for the past few years, but people were still astonished at the performance he put on for the fans. Some of the goals that night were nothing short of spectacular. Although Barcelona didn’t win the domestic league or the Champions League that season, Messi went on to score a total of 73 goals in all competitions.
Luiz Adriano 2011
Before five goal Lewandowski showed what he can do, the Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano managed also managed to add his name to the illustrious list of quintuple players. This happened almost a year ago, again in a Champions League game. His club Shakhtar faced BATE Borisov away in the group stage, and the final result ended in a high 7-0 win for the Ukrainians. Five of those were contributed by Luiz Adriano, and those that were betting with online sportsbooks in the EU, probably made some money. He ended that last season’s CL campaign with 9 goals in 7 appearances. Once the season came to a close, Shakhtar fans were sad to see him depart for AC Milan in a EUR 8 million deal.
Radamel Falcao 2012
In December 2012, football fans witnessed something truly magnificent from a player that was once regarded as the best center forward in the game. Colombian Radamel Falcao bagged a cool 5 goals against Deportivo Coruna. Yes, we know… it sounds unbelievable if you don’t remember that day, considering now he’s far from a player that he was back then. That season Falcao went on to win the Copa del Rey against fierce rivals Real Madrid, netting a total of 34 goals in all competitions. Shame that he was sold to AS Monaco in the summer of 2013, as next season Atletico won the Spanish league and also went to become runner ups in the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo 2015
Ronaldo just can’t stop scoring this season. Since he has joined Real Madrid in 2009, except the first season, he has averaged over 50 goals per campaign. And this year seems to be no different. Despite not scoring in the first two encounters in La Liga, he managed to bag an incredible 5 goals against Espanyol on September 12th. This feat came just over a week before five goal Lewandowski, so the question is should mobile betting punters start placing bets on the next player to reach this accomplishment? Any one of the aforementioned players has the ability to score five goals again, that is with the exception with Falcao of course…
