  • PGA Championship is 3-9 August at TPC Harding Park, San Francisco
  • This will be the season’s first major tournament
  • World No1 and 2-time winner Rory McIlroy is the favorite to win

This year’s PGA Championship will be the first major men’s golf tournament this season after the cancellation and postponements of other events. The championship will be held between the 3rd and 9th of August at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Sadly no spectators can attend the site, but luckily you can still bet on the PGA Championship winner.

The PGA Championship is one of the four major tournaments of the PGA season. The first edition was held in 1916, at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. The first winner received €500, a gold medal and a replica of the Wanamaker Trophy which is still the symbol of the tournament. The location of the Championship is always changing, usually in the eastern part of the county. But this year it will be held in San Francisco, the first event in California in 25 years. 156 players will take part, including former winners Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka. Former US Open Championship winners like Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth and player members of the 2018 Ryder Cup will also compete.

Bet on the PGA Championship winner and guess which former winner can add another title

As you can see the list of top players and favorites are endless. It is almost impossible to predict the winner of this year’s championship. Online sportsbooks in the US are still favoring Rory McIlroy to win with the odds of 8.00. The current world No1 has already won the tournament twice, in 2012 and 2014. He was in good form before March, producing top performances and winning the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions last November. But since the restart of the season, he hasn’t performed at the same level. He was making several mistakes and too many bogeys which resulted in poorer final places. McIlroy is taking a break now to get back to competing mentally as well, hopefully we can see his successful return at the PGA.

Let’s start the tournament!

One of his biggest rivals can be Jon Rahm, who is 2nd in the world ranking and in the list of favorites as well. Unlike the other top players, Rahm hasn’t won the PGA Championship yet, but he finished in T4 position in 2018. The 24-year-old Spanish player had his best year in 2019 after winning his third PGA Tour title in Zurich and finishing 3rd in the US Open. But in the last three events he couldn’t achieve any good result just like McIlroy. His odds to do it on the PGA Championship is 11.00 at 1xBet.

Johnson and Koepka can continue their great form

Another favorite, Dustin Johnson is in a much better form, after winning the Travelers Championship last weekend. The former world No1 is currently in 6th place after gaining his 21st Tour victory. The winner of the 2016 US Open finished second in last year’s PGA Championship. He has a really good chance now to get his second major win. His odds to do so is 13.00 on 1xBet.

Online gambling sites in the US are also mentioning another American player, Brooks Koepka in the top favorites with the odds of 14.00. Koepka has won the tournament in the last two years, so it must be one of his favorite majors. Of course beside the US Open, which he has also won twice. He was leading the world ranking in 2018 for 41 weeks, at the moment he is in 4th place. In the last few weeks he finished 7th in the RBC Heritage and 32nd in the Charles Schwab Challenge but he has still a few weeks to catch up.

Who are you betting on?

If you want to bet on the PGA Championship winner, you might choose Tiger Woods or Justin Thomas. They both have won the tournament before, Woods four times between 1999 and 2007, while Thomas once, in 2017. Of course we don’t have to introduce Woods, but we don’t know much about his most recent form. While Thomas has been quite convincing in the last few races and might cause some surprise.
