The PGA Tour is also returning this week at the Colonial Country Club without any fans on the grounds but with some of the biggest players. Including the top 3 in the current official world golf ranking, with world No1 Rory McIlroy being the favorite in the PGA Charles Schwab Challenge betting odds. But he will face tough competition in the tournament where he hasn’t played before.
The Charles Schwab Challenge formerly called the Colonial National Invitational Tournament will be the first PGA Tour event after the long break. 16 out of the top 20 players will take part in the competition in Texas, including defending champion Kevin Na. This year 144 players will compete in the tournament unlike the usual 120 to give the opportunity to live-action for more players. But fans will focus on the biggest names to see how they managed to keep their form and can perform in the new circumstances.
PGA Charles Schwab Challenge betting odds favor world No1
As per the latest world ranking, British Rory McIlroy is leading the Official World Golf Ranking 37 points ahead of 2nd-place Spanish Jon Rahm. Both of them will be present at the competition, so excitement is guaranteed. Online sportsbooks in the US are favoring McIlroy to win the tournament with the odds of 8.50. Even though it will be his first time at Colonial, compared to Rahm who finished 2nd in 2017 and won the Ben Hogan Award twice as a college player.
But McIlroy has been having a great season last year after winning the Players Championship and the Canadian Open. He also won the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China which was part of the 2019-20 PGA Tour. Rahm also won a few tournaments in 2019, including the Open de Espana in October and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. His odds to win now is 13.00 at the Bovada Sportsbook.
Other favorite players
Online gambling sites in the US are also mentioning Justin Thomas in the favorites with the odds of 17.00. The American is also a former world No1 who got his breakthrough year in 2017 after winning the PGA Championship. This season he won the CJ Cup in South Korea and the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii this January. He is currently 4th in the World Ranking. Just 7 points behind his compatriot, Brooks Koepka who has been grouped with McIlroy and Rahm.
The two-time US Open and PGA Championship winner Koepka only played once at the Colonial but produced a great result. He finished second in 2018 behind Justin Rose, who is also in the participating players this week. Koepka’s odds are 29.00 while Rose has the odds of 41.00. But last year’s champion, Kevin Na will surely try to defend his title. In the PGA Charles Schwab Challenge betting odds bookmakers are only giving him the odds of 51.00 to do. But this is his favorite course, so he might give another great performance this year.
