One day historians will look back and try to identify the moment when sports betting in the US hit the mainstream. Super Bowl LIV may well be the biggest contender for the honour. Record breaking numbers of Americans wagered a record breaking amount of money on the game. This cements the opportunities for those who like to bet on sports in the US at sites like Bovada. However, US sports betting in the 21st century might not be left merely to the established players.

The Kansas City Chiefs were the underdogs. They came back from a ten point deficit and won the fifty fourth Super Bowl in Miami. This left the crowd elated and the San Francisco 49ers disappointed. Like the crowd, the bookies were pretty happy too. They estimate some 26 million Americans wagered about $7 billion on just that one game of football. The legalization of gambling by the Supreme Court giving gaming service providers in the US all business they need. US sports betting in the 21st century was assured.

Liberalization Brings 2020 Super Bowl Betting Bonanza

Online betting sites in the US like Bovada know that this is just the start. Super Bowl LIV may have brought US sports betting into the mainstream, but public demand will keep it there. The only fly in that ointment being that some of the wagers the public demand are ridiculous. Prop bets at this year’s Super Bowl included some very strange opportunities indeed, and they’ll not be the last. The landscape of US sports betting in the 21st century is likely to be extremely varied.

So what has brought about this radical change? The Supreme Court only ruled in favor of New Jersey in May 2019, and yet now they’re raking in $7m? Someone has been awfully quick off the mark, n’est pas? Indeed the states that are already offering sports gambling, numbering around 20 now, are at a distinct advantage and have exploited that position. New Yorkers traveled to New Jersey to bet. But is that the shape of US sports betting in the 21st century? Well not really.

States Offering Sports Gambling In The US Multiply Fast

It’s that which will drive even more states to legalize sporting wagers in the US. This will mean that as time passes US gambling laws will change at a state and not Federal level. This will cause a sea change in the dynamics of gaming in the US. Those seeking to prevent revenues from bleeding across their state borders will legalize it closer to home. It’s a cheap money-spinner the opposition to which seems to have faded away leaving US sports betting in the 21st century an open goal.

There is a debate going on about where the future of gambling in the US lies. Team owners and sports franchises are placing their bets. Innovative ideas and casino tie-ins are ensuring they’ll get their slice of this pie. However, for most of us it’ll be the advances in technology that will give us information and access with which to gamble. Localized services at particular venues seems very likely in the near future. US sports betting in the 21st century is likely to be ever easier to access.

The Future Of Gambling In The US Looks Bright & Brash

Whether US sports betting in the 21st century will deliver on its promises without causing large-scale social harm is questionable. The revenues are certainly enticing after a big game like the one in Miami, but there’s not a Super Bowl every week. Just how much hype will we see from the media then to keep this new found revenue stream for the state open? Plenty, I suspect.

The future of gambling in the US is bound to what the public desire and the Super Bowl taught us they desire some strange things. Whether online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada wish to or not they may need to cater to this market. The knock on effects of this will be noticeable, and may well shape the attitudes to gambling that have so long lagged behind common sense.
